I think it depends on what you plan with the motor. Black would make any shiny parts or bright painted parts really stand out and look sharp. If the motor is black or darkly colored with darker colored accents then a bright white or silver engine bay would do the same thing in reverse. The contrast would be showy either way but if you don't want that then match the bay with the motor to camoflauge(sp?) the not-so-impressiveness of it.
Ok, so what would you rather have stand out? the front cover and intake manifold or the black end housings and intermediate housing? If you want it all to be "out there", use a color other than silver or black like royal blue or cardinal red or emerald green
. It's hard to say since your exterior is already silver and your interior looks like a light grey. You still haven't told us the effect your looking to achieve.

Nice! Looks real good, my engine bay has some spots that definately need some repainting. How did you do it? I mean, did you sand it all down to bare metal or did you just scuff it up with some scotchbrite or something? Did you sand in between coats or did you not care enough to do that? Looks good either way you did it.
washed it down with water using a hose. sprayed engine degreaser on it. used a small brush and brushed the **** off of it. let it dry then primed it. let that dry then sprayed the paint on it.

Hey, it looks good, I dont give a damn what color it is, as long as its not pink or something gay like that, and its all clean. Itll look good no mater what.

Ya don't thing electric gooney-green looks "gay"? Okay...
Seriously, I'll say that it is certainly unique, and it get's an "A" for creativity.

OK, ok, this is the reason why my tanny is green. I wanted to paint it New Cast Aluminum (go with a more conservative look), but my friend was joking with me and said we need to paint it green. I started thinking of how I could get out of cleaning that nasty thing. So I told him that if he would clean the tranny that I would paint it green. Well, at least I got out of having to clean it, and I figured that your not really going to really see it anyway so what the hell. Also, I thought it would give the guys at the tire shop something to talk about when they put it on the lift……heheheee

i would go with black, not for cosmetic, but as heat ... cause wouldnt a black engine bay soak some of the heat away from the engine?

But if you are working on the engine with the hood off or at the angle the sun shines onto the engine bay, you will absorb heat.
In other words color of engine will not cause any heat problem.
