New diff assembly......any break-in required??

That's it just wondering about proper break-in on a new diff assembly.

Have heard (for other vehicles) opinions from nothing at all required to Heat cycle first time driving to X number of miles gentle......blah blah blah....FSM doesn't say anything but I'd rather be safe than short lived or noisy.

Going on an '89 TII with 1000 miles on rebuilt engine (wasn't that hard to do myself )

I would go gingerly for the first 50-100 miles just like if you were braking in brake pads, but I have never heard of an actual requirement to do so.

My ****-retentive self tells me to change the fluid after ~500 miles to get any particulate out of the unnit

Thanks for the reply's I'm still breaking in motor up to 1500 so I'll go easy for another 500.

Hadn't thought of the fluid swap and will add that to my to do at 1500 mile list.

If you have put in a new ring and pinion gear set, than the break-in sould consist of initially driving the car for 15-20 miles of easy driving. After that, shut it down so the rear end can cool down. Repeat this about 3 times. After 300-500 miles, change your rear end oil. After that, consider it to be broken in.
