New to the boards =)

Hey, what's up guys! My current obsession with rotary engines and mainly the FC RX7 drew me to join your forums. I hope to learn a lot about the car and hope to make a lot of friends while I'm here =) I guess I should start by asking some pretty newb questions as I'm just getting into the rotary engine.

1) What's an Apex seal? I've they're one of the biggest problems with reliability in a rotary engine, are there aftermarket seals that can prevent or atleast slow the wear on them?

2) If the engine out of a JDM FD (13B-REW I think?)were to be installed in an FC would the FC be faster or slower than the stock FD? Also which car handles better? I think if I get one I may want to get into the road racing scene but I'd also like to drive it on the street.

3) Is there a big aftermarket for the FC and would and what's an estimated price for swapping the FD engine and transmission into the FC?

Sorry all these questions are pretty basic but I hope to learn as much as possible asap so I can buy one! I'll probably be on the boards almost everynight learning more thanks to you guys!

Ok, first of an Apex seal is a seal that keeps the combustion from loosing its compression. Basicall what it does is blocks off the edges of the triangle thing (rotar) spinning. Now, the FD engine will not go into the FC engine bay without major fabrication and modification. There is a pretty big aftermarket suprisingly for the FC. An estimated price for a FD swap into a FC is probably with engine included $3500-$5000. Welcome to the boards.

1.) its been answered. apex seals were invented to supposedly prevent wear on rotor housings, so instead of junking motors, apex seals could simply be replaced during a rebuild. they provide the seal between rotor faces so the motor can combust properly.

2.)been answered. basically its not worth your money when you could just get a 20b for half the price.
the FD chassis set quite a few records in its day, handles very very well. the advantage of rotary is much less engine weight, which means its much easier to tune weight ratios than say, a V8 in the front of your car, where you practically need to weight the rear to counterbalance the front (note reese millens performance at the last 2 drift invasion competitions re:supra and GTO).
the FC handles pretty well, also its just alittle older, and i believe alittle simpler mechanically. also cheaper. cheaper is good.
3.)theres a large aftermarket for the FC. rotary motors have been used in airplanes and rx-7's so many replacement parts, and upgrades are available for the 13b

dont swap and FD engine into an FC, generally speaking, its a huge waste of time and money from what i understand. You can get MORE than enough usable power with a modded 13bt. There are a lot of ways to turn your NA into a turbo. Im currently following this route: http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/naturbo.htm (thanks to our forum member Aaroncake)

You can't afford it, so don't bother asking about it.
