New Battery, Now dead?

I bought a battery yesterday, and installed it on a car that has been sitting for 2 years. Today i went to it, and the battery was dead. Someone suggested that the battery might not have been charged when i bought it, but when i installed it, everything worked....Any Suggestions/answers?

You left something on, like the lights or ignition.

use jumper cables to get it started, let it run for a while, turn off car. Come back to it the next day and try to start it, if no juice then you left something on again or the battery has crapped out on you

the car might have a short somewhere and it's just draining power even if everything is left on. there is a way to measure this but I forget...
