Never buy in XTD clutch . . .

I bought an XTD stage 2 "Carbon Kevlar" clutch a while back because i thought it'd be a good idea to replace the clutch since i had the tranny out (and the old clutch was starting to show signs of age). From the very beginning its never been all that great, i broke it in easy for the first thousand miles or so and it never really ever got good clamping power. Recently it started slipping randomly, out of now where it'd cure itself. In the last few days of its life i was traveling down the freeway and i wasnt able to keep the car above 70 the tach showed 4k in 5th gear going 70mph . . . . . needles to say i was pissed, really pissed. Anyway; the tranny was toast too so here's some pics of my fun . . . again >_>

P.S. Anyone ever have a tranny rotate on a tranny jack and fall on you spilling tranny fluid in your ear? >_<

the new clutch is holding up perfect, same with the tranny . . . no grinding 5th, fluid seeping up into the cab or slipping clutch, it grabs perfect.

tell me about it, then once my ACT clutch comes in i have to run through this with my TII but add the heavier tranny and the fact that i'm throwing on a RB flywheel too . . .
I wonder if i'm going to go deaf in that ear, it still feels like theres a tiny bit in there still . . .

on the bright side the tranny clicked in with out a single fuss, not one, i was shocked.

i had a tranny fall off a tranny jack and crack me in the back of the head. it was an r400 from a ford i think. all i know is that i was blacked out for about 2 minutes. came to in a pool of blood and needed 13 stitches. and was doused in ATF. and yeah XTD is ****. i had one shatter on me in my old SR20. clutch kicked it one night playing around and i just heard BRUPPPT! followed by a serious of pings. and i knew exactly what it was, they are cheap peices of ****!!!!

What the hell is a tranny jack? just get under there on a creeper and bench press it and use your legs too. then when it comes out you lay it on your chest and roll out. I pulled a th350 3 speed auto out that weights like 165 when I was 15 and 100lbs.

I recently had a napa clutch put in for me and for some reason now I have weird shifting irregularities and the car shudders, so I know what you mean about buying poor quality stuff. I'll have to look into getting something trustworthy next time.

I've had tranny fluid in my hair... what a mess. Man, no one should be buying XTD clutches. Do you regret not doing it right the first time?

Just be glad the clutch was the only thing that went and didn't make the pressure plate let loose also. Here are pictures of my friends pressure plate after it blew apart in his 680hp truck. He was on the gas and the kevlar clutch started to slip and the pressure plate let go at 7,000 rpms. Took out the whole bell housing and part of the floor, It went through the dash and broke his windsheild.

A week before that happened he thought the clutch was slipping so he called the clutch company and asked them what burning kevlar smells like. The said they never heard of anyone slippling one before.

I've had tranny fluid in my eye. Now THAT sucks.
In case you are wondering, I was using Aaron Cake's method of add tranny fluid (http://aaroncake.net/RX-7/transfluid.htm) and the hose popped out spraying fuid everywhere. Other than that the method worked great, though.

i dont understand how some of you ARENT having trouble with these peices of ****, if you look in the picture the clutch i put in is obviously far better quality. (and it cost about the same), the clutch was installed right was broken in right and the used clutch that the XTD replaced was still capable of holding way more power. XTD = ebaySTD.

yeah i could bench press the tranny but i rather not have it slip and land on my junk, so **** that. that tranny jack has more than payed for itself ($60)

p.s. i love fluid pumps

and +1 for scatter sheild on that truck, he could have gotten his legs sheared off.

7000RPM, is when it exploded.

I would call that a manufacturing defect.

Weird, I know 3 people including myself that beat the crap out of their turbo xtd stage 3 clutch. No issues and mine still grabs hard EVEN after I gave the girlfriend a lesson on how to drive a stick.

Girlfriend (not letting the clutch out all the way): Is that smoke from the tires?
Me: Nope, that would be the clutch.
(as the smokes fills the car)
Girlfriend : Whats a clutch, and why is it smoking at me?

(at that stage we were calling the pedals left middle and right )

Word of wisdom.... Never let your better half drive your car.

I had a XTD stage 3 6 puck that was amazing for the first 5k, but it slipped a lot after that. wouldn't hold powerpast 5k RPM's after 7k on it... I only was making about 250whp...

I bought the xtd six puck clutch and pressure plate. I used it for a bit at 350rwhp and it seemed to work just fine. I then broke my motor down at witch time I went with an act 6puck etc... Well I sold the xtd to a guy I know that has an n/a car and doesn't mind putting a beating on it (winding his car up to 10-12,000rpm)every day! He had that clutch in his car for over a year with no problems.
