Never bought an RX-7... was thinkin about a 1990....

This is the FC, right?

Anyways, I found a few deals on a different 90's RX-7s Convertibles.

The one I'm looking at has 89k miles. Since I'm not familiar with the car at all, I am just asking if this is a safe buy just due to the mileage? I am looking at getting my sister a car and this 1990 RX-7 is a convertible 5 speed for 5 grand.

Or should I get her a Miata as I had initially intended? Only reason I ask is because for her first car, I want to get her something fun, and something she'll really learn on, as well as something I won't mind driving time to time for errands.

Anyways, please let me know. I know the FDs are less reliable due to the turbos but I don't know about these.

Thanks! Oh yea, how fast are these in comparision to the Miatas? I don't want anything overly powerful for her.

Oh, and 89k isn't that many miles when it comes to N/A RX-7's. I have an '87 with over 180k on the original engine.

Both the RX-7 and Miata are fun little cars. You will probably have a little more trunk space with the 7 tho, but you are still limited on the size of the "errands" you will be able to run.

Sevens are too much fun dude you will end up taking it away from her. Nah that sounds a little on the high side for the price but if you got the cash. Go For It!

5 grand seems to be pretty expensive for 89K miles, and its a vert. i got my GXL with 50,000 miles last summer for $5,400 in mint condition.

well if you want a car with not to much power you are not going to want an rx7 as these cars are pretty fast...so if i were you i would go with a miata...but again its up to you, and about the price, it depends how the inside of the car is, its not only the miles, for all you know there could be a bad oil leak on a car with 50, 000 miles, so that is not a very good thing to go, aaron's website, however is

I'm getting a 2004 RX-8 so I don't think I'd be too distracted..

But I think in the end it's smarter for me to get her a Miata, because she needs to learn how to drive, not kill herself

i still think the rex would be a better bet, the NA's arent exactly speed demons but it is nice to have the little extra power when needed (to avoid collisions and what-not) and i personally don't exactly favor the looks of the older miatas, now a new one, well then thats perfectly fine...

well if you want a car with not to much power you are not going to want an rx7

yup these cars can be dangerous if you are not a little bit skilled. But it is a good car to learn on My GF is learning "stick" in my FC and she can handle it verry well and she is not experienced with cars at all.

the NA's arent exactly speed demons

hahahahaha my N/a is damned fast bro. Not as fast as a TII but it is FAST. I love my little N/a road demon and don't nock the Non-Turbo FC. A miata is a nice car but I have never driven or taken a ride in one so I don't know about that.

Wait is that 90vert an Auto or 5spd?????

The RX-7 convertibles are larger & have more space, plus there faster. The miata's are a great car, but you do lose a bit of storage space.

$5000 sounds right if the top's in good shape, engine is lower miles, and the seats/dash aren't too dried by the sunlight. Make sure the car comes with a "boot" for which you cover the top when it's down. If they have the hardtop storage bag (for t-top mode), that's even better.

This car is a BLAST to drive hard & fast. It feels like it's hugging you on the road, you feel so "connected" to the street, & handling is bar none superb.

Having 8K rpms to play with is also very fun.

you make it sound like the N/A 7 is a 12 second car!

i think its pretty hard to get yourself into trouble with a n/a 7 as far as power is concerned. especially on the street. Its not like a 500hp Bigblock with huge torque, where you just look at the gas pedal wrong and you have broke traction.

Id take a Miata over a convertable rx-7. Have you ever driven a Miata? Ive never driven a car that cornered so well (my rx-7 is close, but doesnt feel as nimble) Miatas are fun as hell, and It will out-accelerate a vert rx-7 even with the ~30 less HP.

I'll take that bet. I've beat 2 miata's just playing around on the street.

Now your right, it a tight roadcoars the miata's closer wheelbase makes it fun

With a stock vert, I think that the miata is going to beat it. Plus depending on the year of the rx7, the miata is a newer car not to mention a "girl's" car. And more people know how to work on a miata 4 cylinder. But the rx7 does look better in my opinion...
