Need transmission guidance.

The problem i seem to be having is figuring out if the rx-8 transmission will bolt up to a turbo II motor. I honestly don't believe it would be a direct bolt up because that is way to easy but i want to know is it even possible. I am not sure if this has been brought up in previous discussions and if so could you please direct me to the link. I realize that the rx-8 tranny doesn't have as much power hold potential as the good old turbo II but i still would want it. Thank dudes.

this is a bad call for a number of reasons.

Rx-8 trannies are weak as you know. A number of Rx-8 owners have had problems with them... and an Rx-8 puts down like 130ish torque to the wheels.

gas mileage will be worse. I'm pretty sure top gear is shorter than a T2's top gear, despite the rx-8 having a six speed

you would probably need a custom bellhousing.

if you want shorter gears you're better off getting a custom gear put into your rear end

It will bolt right up using TII parts. I think the shifter may be off a little bit (1/4 inch) and you have to use a custom crossmember. As far as being strong goes, I've seen the internals of one and the gears and synchros look just like the ones in a TII tranny. Its not too hard to install one but you won't have a speedo. The RX8 uses a digital sensor that is on the differential. On the upside having a RX8 transmission would mean having a very smooth shift compared to a 20 year old FC transmission.

so why do people keep saying that the internals on the rx8 trannies are weak. I was thinking of just having the tranny cryoed and then begining the building process. As far as the sensor goes with the diff. is there any potentail ways to solve that problem?

they keep saying that they are weak because they keep breaking on nearly stock Rx-8s!

and nonturbo trannies tend to be weak anyway on 7's. The turbo trannies in the T2 and FD were also used (in modified form) in Ford trucks and SUV's so they are way beefier
