Question need some input for trans swap

just need to know how far the shifter comes in past the sheet metal/trans tunnel without the boot, stick, or anything on it. an exact measurement would be good but i can deal with approximates. i looked at a lot of pics, but couldn't tell.

i'm working out some adapters for my s4 auto to manual swap and i don't want to damage anything by having everything at a bad angle. so far my shifter comes up about 1" past the sheet metal and i think it's too much, though the engine looks like it always sat in the bay.

bump, cuz i'm going to start it up soon... i can always make shim blocks between the adapter and car to lower the trans angle. a simple "about flush" or a "little above the sheet metal" will do. i'm just looking for someone who remembers how it was oriented from working on shifter. thanks. you can also tell me it doesn't matter that much and to shut up stop posting as long as it's the truth.

Don't have exact measurments. It's like 1/4 inch.

BTW - when I build the rotary longblock I'm planning, I was thinking of moving the shifter housing down about 3-8 inches which means cutting the shift rod by 3-8 inches.
