Need some info on door speakers for 88 vert???
I am getting a new stero and my old speakers are blown on the door both sides. Do I have to special order these speakers?? My buddy who has had his car longer says that you do. What size are they 5.1/2 or 5 inches?? If i special ordered these they're gonna cost me $200 a piece. Couldn't i just buy some speakers at Circuit City ?? Any info would be very helpful.
Thanks
Thanks

I just bought a set of 6.5s. And made a custom bracket to mount them on. The stock speakers are 6.5s in series 5, I'm not sure about series 4. The only problem is the holes for the mounting screws won't line-up. But I'm sure you could figure out a way to make it work.

I bought my Infinity's for my 1st gen and it came with a bracket to match to almost any type of hole. I believe thats what you want here. Plus, Infinity's are a good, cheap speaker(relative).

I've got Boston Acoustics 6.5" 2-way speakers in my 88 vert. Sounds great, and easy to fit! Get 6.5s, don't spend the extra money for less bass. For $200, you can buy really good speakers!

But what do you use to cover it up? I wanted to keep it original? I hear Boston Acoustics are really well made. Are you saying that the Boston Acoustics will fit in the hole that the original fits into? What size is the originals anyways???

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
The speaker size is actually 6 inch not 6 1/2. It is a 125mm (or 13CM) hole.
Most 6 " speakers like the Alpine 1629S or JL 600 series fit just fine, but the true 6 1/2 like the JL 650 series or alpine 1729 will not fit (as they need a 140MM hole).
The door speakers in the 88 are only woofers so if you do put a coax speaker in there you will not get any high frequency with the stock amps and stock head unit.

6" woofers are easy enough to find. Kicker makes real nice 6" subs that would fit that hole, as I recall.
My speakers required some modification to fit (snip and roll back some metal), but it still looks 100% stock (speaker grill same). Installation was not that bad, if you have some decent tools (metal snips or solid cutters that can cut metal, some decent pliers, and a drill or Dremel).

I don't have the headrest unit. I have the cloth seats so I will be relying on these speakers for some kick. Any suggestions so I guess a 6.5 will fit in there with a little snip and tugs??? What are the best 6.5 speakers out there these days??
