need some HEEELP b4 buying an rx-7 pls...(long-ish)

I just wanna become familiar with the idea of this car and tuning and terms and stuff before i buy just in case i go up sh*t creek financially.

Now I plan to buy a S5 Turbo2 Coupe. Budgeting £1000 for an ok one and maybe another for £1000... now with that £1000 should I:

A) get i back to top notch.
B) run it normally until i need a new engne rebuild (no racing just brisk driving) and then fork out for seals and whatever tools and other stuff i need.
C) Rebuild the engine first? and see how much i have left for other mods.

Now is it expensive to own one of these, I am bearing in mind that they are quite heavy on fuel (that don't bother me too much). But as far as general maintenace goes... is it affordable for me. Not planning to sepnd much more than £2000 in the next 2 years on it.

And is an apex seal one of the three seals on the tip of the rotor? and a mild port is done on which port? intake or exhaust or both. I'm only gonna go for mild. I want a new free-er flowing exhaust, any recommendations (and prices would be cool). And tyres and suspension? Any recommendations, prices would help too.

Thanks for all ur help!

If I were you, I'd buy the best car I could afford with an obvious emphasis placed on the mechanicals of the car. It's far better to buy a perfectly running, low-mileage RX-7 with a need for paint than a good-looking, but mechanically ragged out car.

When you pick out a likely winner, you really ought to get it checked out by a Mazda dealership or rotary specialist. Make sure you get the compression checked. This is especially important if the car has a large amount of miles (>75K) on it. If the compression checks out to within spec and everything else on the car works, then buy it. After you buy the car, have some fun with it and don't be afraid of popping the motor. However, **** happens and you might need to replace the engine some day. Perhaps budget 50 pounds a month into a "Rainy Day" (I can imagine these are rather common in England) fund and save it in case something ever happens to the car, be it a blown motor, new clutch, accident repair, etc. That way, you'll be prepared and won't be carless for too long when an expensive repair does come along.

Anyways, good luck and post links to any likely prospects here.
