During inspection of the engine parts of my S5 n/a engine I found a broken spring (about five pieces) in the oil presssure control valve that screws into the bottom of the front housing.

I bought this engine from a board member who represented it as a Bonzai Racing rebuild with 20k miles.

Due to no compression in one chamber and very low compr on the remaining two chambers of one rotor I disassembled the engine.

I found both rotors in similar condition with apex and side seals gummed up so far as to be essentially glued in place.

What would likely have happened when the oil pressure control valve spring broke into about five pieces?
what does the gumming up indicate?
The oil control rings and related o-rings look to be in excellent condition.

Thanks for any info.
