Looking for some insight into the different brake set-ups on the 7. Any experts please advise.

This is my guess:

Second gen 4 lug

Same front rotors, pads and calipers as 84-85 GSL-SE.

4 lug non vented rotors on the rear. Same calipers and pads as all 86-91's.

Second gen 5 lug (Convert, TII, GXL, GTUs)

5 Lug Vented Front Rotors for the Large 4 Piston Front Calipers.

Big Square Pads with holes for brake caliper pins - same as front pads on FD3S.

5 Lug Vented Rear Rotors with the same pads and calipers as all 86-91's.

Second gen 5 lug (GTU, Sport, SE)

5 Lug Vented Front Rotors for Single Piston Calipers (same as TII, GXL, Convert?).

Same front pads and calipers as 4 lug 86-91's.

Same rear calipers and pads as all 86-91's.

Rear 5 lug non vented rotors.

Please shed some light on this. Thank you for your help.

No, the 86-87 Sport came with 5 lug 4 piston vented front brakes

and the SE (as well as the Base, and Luxury coupe) came with 4 lug single piston front brakes and solid rotor rear brakes.

as well as the calipers for the non vented rear rotors are smaller than for the Vented rear rotors.

5 lug wheels with Vented rear rotors and 4 piston front brakes were found on the:
86-87 Sport
87-91 Turbo
86-90 GXL
88 GTU
89-90 GTUs
88-92 convertibles
91 coupes with A packages

The 4 lug wheels with single piston fron brakes and non vented (solid) rear rotors came on the:
86-87.5 Base
86.87.5 Luxury
87.5- 88 SE

5 lug wheels with single piston front brakes and solid rear rotors, came on the:
89-90 GTU
91 Coupe w/o A package

BTW: this all is listed on the sticky thread at the top of the FC section of options and standard features! Please look there next time
