Need honest opinion
heres my situation, Currently I have an 89 civic hb with, intake and exhaust which my father bought me, Im also in college. The engine needs piston rings so instead I was going to get an engine swap(B16a1). My father also gave me the choice if I want to sell it. Ever since I was about 8 years old I wanted an 89-91 turbo2 rx7. So I was thinking of getting a S5 T2 but after reading alot of the post on this forum I hear they are not as reliable as the NA but I want something with some power that will be able to pass emissions. Also a con to the rx7 for it is rwd car and during the winter months it snows.
Now being in my situation what would you do. I need something that is reliable.
What are yall opinions

Well, if I owned a Civic I would kill myself...but barring that...
My opinion has always been this: if you have to ask "should I buy an RX-7", it means you SHOULD NOT buy an RX-7.
My 2 cents.

first time I have ever heard of RWD being a bad thing... kids now-a-days (shakes head).
IMO: Seriously I would suggest that you get a NA for right now, until you learn how to drive a sports car instead of an ecomomy car. A 100HP jump and a switch from FWD to proper wheel drive may get you into situations that are above your driving skill.
In addition, unless the car you get has been maintained well it will not be reliable, be it a rotary powered car or another Honda or even (shudder) a domestic. Many rotary owners thinking the car was japanese and would last forever forget simple things, like checking the oil at each and every fill up, or replacing worn parts or clogged filters. If those simple things and others like it have not been done the car will be a piece o'****, and you will be complaining about it (hopefully not here).
But if the car has been maintained correctly engines should last 200K+ miles (not unheard of by any means for a NA), and 120K+ for a T2.

If you're broke, in school, need to be able to drive your car every day, and don't have the desire to work on your car, you should not buy a TII.
But that's my opinion and you know what that say about those..
