Need Help w/ Air Conditioning

I recently replace my engine with a Mazda Rebuild engine, new exhaust, and currently working on the brakes. I seem to be having trouble with my air conditioning. I purchased a new Logicon which works, but the air conditioning still doesn't work. With the air conditioning off, the regular fan doesn't work either, when its warm outside its warm inside and vice versa. My air conditioner kicks on because my idle drops but it seems that I don't get any cold air. I can't figure out whats wrong. I added coolant and everything. Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Sam

Check to make certain that a/c clutch stays engaged with engine running. Chances are that the system is low on R12. There's a low pressure switch that controls the compressor. If low on pressure, clutch disengages.

Yeah..you may have to have a technician check for leaks in the system. If leaks are found, you may as well convert over to R134a at that time. Doesnt cost much for the conversion.

Could you elaborate on that. Can our old system withstand the additional head pressure with using R134A?
