Need help with technical question
Have an 86 NA experiencing overheating problems recently. In trying to locate the problem we discovered that the PD is leaking bad. Checked plugs and the front leading plug is horribly torched.....running really lean(my guess).
Question is how much would lean running engine contribute to overheating problem??
Thanks for the info.

leaner the burn, the hotter it is. That's how detontation begins, the lean burn heats up carbon deposits until they start glowing, and the carbon lights off the fuel mixture before the sparkplug fires. That's all a result of a lean mixture.
OTOH, look, the car is over 20 years old. The radiator should be replaced if it hasn't been yet. The water pump has probably seen better days. Replace your hoses at the same time.
But tackle that leaking PD ASAP, you don't want to lose the car in a fire.

Thank you Silkworm that was the kind of answer I was looking for.
Car's parked until PD is replaced. Leaning towards Banjo bolt after a short cost benefit analysis of cars age shape...yadda,yadda....
Car belongs to 16yr old sister-in-law not a lot of cash flow there so trying to help get it working reliably......hopefully this will also cure or at least significantly help the overheating problem as well.
