Exclamation Need help with my -87 t2

I just bought myself a 1987 t2 and I have a little problem.
When I reach about 4000 RPM it feels like the car isnīt getting enough fuel until I reach about 6000 RPM.
If I donīt keep it at full throttle it runs great, but as soon as the boost goes over 6 PSI it feels like it just doesnīt get enough fuel.
The only modifications that I know have been done by the previous owner is an open air-filter and an aftermarket downpipe.
Does anyone have any idea why this happens?

I dont think your giving enough info. Does the car buck, bog, detonate or what??? There is a common problem some rx7 owners notice at 3800-4k rpm but its called a studder and basically the car kind of freezes then comes back in a 200 rpm incriment. It doesnt take 2000 rpms. DO a search for that and you will see it could be a grounding issue to the ecu. So what happens at 6000 rpms when you say its normal again. Do you have a good boost gauge?? Because if there is an intake, 3 inch dp you could be making enough boost to hit fuel cut. Thats where the engine limits you from boosting by cutting the amount of fuel it lets into the engine. But that is usually at 8 psi on a s4 t2 and 10 I think on the s5. I would check around the wastegate and turbo compressor side for a manual boost controller if you just bought the car. And also if it really is a fuel problem your fuel pump wiring may be bad. Do search for fuel pump rewire IF thats really the case. Basically we need more info cause it could be a ton of different things.

Well, since it hasnīt broken down yet I donīt think itīs detonating...
Iīve been searching the forum for 2 hours without finding anything useful, and thatīs why I started this thread.
I think the wastgate needs to be ported since itīs not able to keep the boost down at high RPMs and I might be boosting somewhere near 8PSI now.
Is there anyting I can do so that it doesnīt cut the fuel at 8 PSI? (except porting the wastgate)

yes its called a FCD. Fuel cut defensor. I have one on my car from racing beats. It takes literally 30 secs to hook up. The cheapest place I found to buy it is rx7store here is the link

The only other option is to put your stock airbox back on to see if thats the problem. You may want to do that in the mean time just to eliminate a couple possibilities. Good luck.
