Need help with muffler decision RB or HKS
I'm planning on probably getting the mazdatrix true dual exaust system for my vert (lets stay on topic here ) and I was wondering what is the real difference between the HKS and the RB mufflers that it can come with... besides the obvious 200 dollar price difference.
Which ones will be quieter, what will the tone difference be?
(I've read that you can get silencer inserts for the HKS mufflers... this would imply that they are overly loud... or maybe it just makes them really quiet, if anyone knows?)
Also, which ones will give me more power, I know it wouldnt be too much difference, but I figure with the N/A it needs every little bit it can get
Any help would be apreaciated, and please no true duals suck posts or any other posts related to the rest of the exaust system, im just trying to make a decision between those two mufflers right now.

I voted for Racing Beat:
Purchased HKS cat back in 1989 after purchase of '89TII-They where JUNK-Looked as of they were made by high school students under instructions. Had them on the car 1/2 hour and returned them.
Purchased RB Turbo back sytem in 2000-Excellent. No comparision in quality. Far superior to HKS.
Maybe HKS has changed materials/quality since my purchase, but it sure left a sour taste in my mouth concerning HKS.

well, the old school HKS products are nothing special...they perform well and fit well and last a long time but the old school stuff is, well...old. The idea back then was a higher flowing exhaust that fits and lasts...back then it was above standard but these days its well below. people want exhausts to be light, made of either T304 stainless or even titanium or at the least coated with some kind of heat treatment. People want style as well...all the old systems are very tame looking, especially the original RB stuff and of course the HKS sport. I really don't know why HKS still offers the sport system for the FC...it really should be revised or dropped but if you looked at a Dragger or Hiper system for the FC from them it's very impressive in terms of quality, style and fitment. HKS wrote the book on jap performance in my book...I just got my downpipe for my TII swap from them and sure it's disappointing by today's standards but hey I got it *cheap* At the same time I received a shipment at the shop for an HKS downpipe for an EVO 8 and you can't even compare the two in terms of quality and appearance. I should have gotten the RB downpipe myself but this price was practically free hehe

I don't like the way that single exausts look on fc's, they have two cutouts, and if only one is filled it looks odd. And like I said in the inital post, i just wanted help deciding on the mufflers.

Yo,
Luckily for you, I've had both. The standard 50mm HKS exhaust comes with pretty much stock looking tips. The sound is nice and mellow.
The Racing Beat has slash tips and chromed/polished canisters. The sound is a little raspier down low, but still nice.
For stock/stealth: HKS
For bling bling: Racing Beat
The Racing Beat is way more blingtastic...if you are looking for an exhaust system they yells, "This bitch ain't stock!" then RB is the way to go.
I currently have the RB and I'm diggin' it.

Although what Rarest said is true as far as we go most people don't know that my car is not stock untill they hear it run on the road. With my RB duals if you step about 20FT from the car you can't really hear it at idle. cruising you can only hear a humm from the rear of the car much like the stock exhaust. Under accleleration the sound is a nice growl down low and gets loud above 4k rpm. I have not heard HKS yet so I can not compare the two just giving what I know about the RB mufflers. I have though heard the APEXI N1's on video tape...they...are....LOUD! even on a TII compared to my RB mufflers they are deffinatly louder.

Yo,
I would say the RB is louder all the way around. The idle on both is very reasonable, but the HKS is definitely a little quieter.
The RB might be louder because it's flowing more, but that might just be speculation.
If you are looking for an almost stock looking system, low key flat cut tips, aluminized cans, and a mellow tone...then HKS.
If you are looking for a bling bling, big tip, shiny *** cans, and a louder note...then Racing Beat.
Let me see if I can dig up some photos for you!
