ok hi guys i new to this forum and right now i drive a 97 240 and i need a beater to drive around while my car is getting finish well i found a rx7 10th anniversary in the newspaper for 3500 and its in really good shape no dents or smelly interior and it has one owner but the turbo smokes when the cars starts for about the first 5-7 seconds then it stops and runs fine after that i think the turbo is probably leaking oil, well i was just wondering what else should i look for in these cars like rust in certain areas the belts rotors?? im not really sure what to look for when buying one of these cars so i need help thanks

You are aware that the 10th AE is a fairly rare version, arent you you?

i think like 500 or 1500 were made right?? its just been sitting in the newspaper ad for about 2 months and no one has brought it yet because of it smoking for 5 seconds when you start it up
RX-7 10th anniversary for a beater? That is a sin my son. You know 10AE are pretty rare, if you are going to buy it take good care of it.
Far as rust, lot of FCs have rust in the rear fender look for that. Also look for rust in exhaust system, I have seen few turbos that had exhaust leak around the downpipe due to rust. When you test drive it take it past 3800rpm and see if there is a hesistation, it's mostly NA problem but turbos can have that too. Basically look for same things as you would in any other used car, other than motor and intake system rest of the things are basically same as any other car.
