Need help identifying this

hey guys ive had my 89 na for a while but ever since i got it... this has been getting on my nerves.

the owner was pretty sketchy about it saying the owner b4 him poured some lead into it or something. i really dont remember just b/c it sounded weird. well anyways that was in june, now its feb. and over the months i attacked it a lil but today i decided to go full force at it, because its keeping me from painting my car a whole different color. anyways here are some more pics...

anyways i see theres a little bondo above it closee to the hatch hinge. what do u guys suggest i do? right now im using a palm sander and 40 grit trying to get it, but im having trouble in those small spots. what do u guys suggest i do? any help is appreciated. thanks!

dont use a sander to get down in those small spots...hold a piece of sandpaper in you hand and push your finger into those low spots the sanders to big to get at.

That's a crude patch job if I ever saw one. If you don't know what to do, you are most likely over your head with this problem. I know I would be. Find a body person and ask them what the best approach would be. Looks to me like cutting out the patch job and welding in a new piece may be in order. But what do I know?

Could have been a dent and/or hole caused by some sort of impact. But the bondo makes me think it was a recurring problem area that was "fixed" more than once, suggesting rust.
