need help, how is the fuel pump hooked up in a 1986 rx7 gxl
Can anybody explain to me how is the fuel pump hooked up in a 1986 rx7 gxl n/a.
Specifically:
-wheather or not there is a relay, or if it opperates from the opening circuit relay,
-wiring diagram for the fuel pump
-and anything else you might know wich is important.
Now, make sure we're talking about the 86 gxl non aspirated, because, it seems that it;s different in s5's, and turbo models.
I know someone is going to ask me what i'm doing but it takes too long to explain, so PLEASE, help me out with my questions.

Power flows from battery...
To big fuse block under the hood...
To the smaller fuse block in the driver's side kickpanel...
To the relay on the steering column.
This relay is activated by a number of factors.
One is from the main relay under the hood (metal box under the hood by the trailing coils), the main relay gets triggered through your ignition switch.
The circuit also goes through your airflow meter, and if the airflow meter is CLOSED, the circuit shuts off.
I think it's also tied into the stock ECU, as there's a 2-3 second priming function all FC's have.
From the steering column, it snakes down to side of the vehicle finally ending up at your fuel pump.
The fuel pump gounds through the bracket that supports it.
There is a fuel pump cover / bracket ground on top of the cover itself.
It snakes back along the fuel pump power wire bundle.
Sorry, I dunno where the ground eventually terminates.

There's NO priming function.
EDIT: I'll retract that. IF the key is held to START, there is a secondary coil in the Fuel Opening Relay that does run the pump as long as the key is held to START. Personally I disabled this wire to the Fuel Opening Relay and there is no difference in starting the car at all. With a zero psi fuel rail the rail will still pressurize in under one seccond without that secondary coil working, by the vane on the afm *making* the Fuel Opening Relay.
There's a free, online, fsm who's URL is located on this forum in the FAQ thread at the start of this second gen.
Just turning the key to ON will not do squat to the fuel pump though. Gotta hold to START.
