PA Need Help: High level on dip stick.

Hello all, and I did do a search.

Long story short, my friend used my car (87 TII) the other night and told me he found a puddle of oil under the car (approx 1 cup). He drove the car home, let it cool down, pulled the dipstick and it was half way up the dipstick. I came home and verified the story and it was true. The oil was changed about 3000 miles ago, and oil level has been checked several times in between with normal results. All the obvious things have been cheack and I am looking for an answer as to why there is so much oil in the pan??

If you haven't lost any coolant, somebody put too much oil in the car, that could be why there is a leak from the large amount of oil. Drain it out to the correct level.

Who changed the oil?
what does the Oil smell like?
if YOU changed it,them How much did you put in??
.System holds 6 quarts but you only put about 4 in,as the cooler will always have about 2 quarts in it.
Did Nobody check the oil level when it was changed?.

To clarify:
I changed the oil about 3000 miles ago
I checked it numerous time between the change and now
I confirmed the oil level climbed to a high level.
I confirmed this has happened in the last three weeks.
I have checked all the obvious possibilities.
I am very car/engine literate, this one has me puzzled however

I am going to change the oil tomorrow anyway as it was due for a change and dig into this a little more.
