Need help on buying an FC
I found a 1988 RX7 SE for sale around my area. It is in pretty good shape, a lot of miles on it though (197,XXX), but it had an engine replacment at around 50,000 miles. The Exterior was nice, a little paint fade and the sunroof doesn't open. The interior was great except for a few minor things such as the radio is missing, the drivers seat has a little hole in it, the center console is messed up, & the sun visor won't stay up. It had working AC & it shifted very well (5speed). Here is a pic of it (I did not take this)
The guy wanted $3,500 for it & with fees and all that crap to get it in my possession it would cost me $3872. I will try to talk to him down to maybe $3,000 or at least $3,500 out the door. Is this a good deal guys? I need your help. I WANT A ROTARY!!!

Lets look at the car you described: It's a ninteen year old SE, which was was the low end model (stripper), the car has high mileage, needs paint, doesnt have a radio, has a hole in the seat, the sun visor is broken, and the console is jacked.
And he wants $3900???? I personally wouldn't buy an SE. If if I did, it would be for $1000 in the condition you describe. $3900 would buy me a pristine vehicle rather than a well worn stripper.

It is not a good deal, turn it down and dont think about it twice. if you really do like the car and dont mind putting work into it because you will have to then I would say a good offer for the car would be 2500 but that is a good deal for him really I would not advise paying over 2000 for that car.

Oh yeah try asking the dealer if it is a 4cyl or a 6cyl. If he knows it is a rotary ask him what the compression is. Chances are he doesnt know any of thee above and you can then feel confident that he is not sure about nearly anything about the car other than it starts and runs. I take back my last price statement after noticing all the problems it has. 1500 is a good decent price for that car but then you will be stuck with an se and you will be trying to get all kinds of parts to try and make it like it's bigger brothers. Don't touch it find another. let it go to the junk yard for parts or something.

90 white gxl, free, 90 triple black vert 1 g. parts car with suspension, 800(running) just felt like parting it.
they are getting harder to find in a clean condition but what ever you buy can be fixed or pay to fix or painted or tweaked in any way.
what do you want to do with it is first.
my experience is a 7 is not a 7 without the goodies

I got my 1988 TII with 120k for almost half that. Don't buy it till he drops below 1800. If he won't do that, then go ahead and check our classifieds. We have much more honest sellers here.

tell him to go hump a goat,
4 lug 14 inch wheels suck, not to mention non 4 pistion front brake calipers,
and all the crap wrong with it..
i mean its nice that the engine was rebuillt (about 150k miles ago if what you say is right, still means the engine has ALOT of miles on it, the chassis about 50k more) if the engine was replaced around 50k, someone probbally broke the original one... I'd wonder about the condition of the rest of the mechanial parts.
NOT WORTH any where near 2k....it would cost more i think to fix all the problems.
i got my 91 coupe for 3000, with a rebuilt engine about a year ago (2005) maybe like 140k on the chassis, interior all in good shape, working and matches.
minor issues like an exhaust leak (fixed with gasket $15) and put a good set of tires on it
power everything maybe payed too much, but only by about 500 bucks or so.
more than 3k is a total ripoff for an 88se

I paid $1000 for my Turbo II and $2300 for my base 10 years ago and it was in better shape. That SE is nice but not that nice. If you've got money to spend, hang tight, find one that needs a little TLC for a good price, but it and put a few $'s into it.

I really appreciate all the help guys. I didn't except so many responses. I think what I'm going to do it just forget about this one. Liek most of you said, it's only an SE & when I got on it a bit, it had no power at all. I really want a TII in white but I doubt I can find a deal that matches what I really want. But I will try to find a TII for cheap. Thanks a lot guys, I'll be coming here more often!!
