Need Help, brake master cylinder and resouvoir
Hi, the old gaskets (brushings) were leaking. I bought new ones. Trying to put it back together and I can't for the life of me get the resouvoir all the way flush against the master cylinder. Does it need to be flush if its aready really tight? Any ideas for getting it pushed all the way in???
thanks

dunno if this will work, but they have this gasket glue stuff that you put on like paste, then you press the two peices together, and then it makes a mold of the things for a perfect fit. You can get it at Advance Auto, and probably other auto-shops. (it's cheap too!)

Update: Okay, I tried using the vice to pust the resouvoir into the master cylinder assembly. The vice will pust it in okay to the point where it should be flust and okay. Take it out of the vice and its back to the way it was.
I'm gonna try to install it as it is. I don't think its gonna go in anymore and I don't think it is coming out easy either. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hey Dude...
If I remember correctly, I had the same problem. I think that it is normal not to go all the way "flush". The key is to make sure the O ring is set properly and it seems this is manifested by being hard to pull out too...

HA.....HA HA HA HA HA !!!
You all thought that it wouldn't work, you said I was crazy....BUT IT WORKED!!!
2 lessons here. Patience is necessary when working on the brake master cyilinder assembly. And there are some things that don't go all the way into other things (example: human head into microwave)
Thanks for all the support during my madness.

Ray at Malloy Mazda was telling me that the resovoir should just wiggle in and out no problem but I had to pry mine out..took like an hour because I didn't want to try too hard too fast and break it.
If yours is any eisier maybe you should do a write up for everyone else...mine is sort of angry and LONG.

oh man...
...my **** is leaking too...it looks like it's coming from the point where the brake master cylinder meets the big black circle brake booster thing...
...this is weaksauce...any ideas? should I just replace the gasket, if there is one, or do I have to buy a whole new master cylinder?

hey
man i know your pain and if you haven't figured it out on how to push that in yet i will tell you my experience. On my master cylinder where the booster piston was suppose to go in was leaking so had to get a rebuilt one without a tank. so i removed my old tank and tried to install it on the new one. i tried for about half a day and i tried the vice thing. still didn't work. in the end run wat i did was lube the bushing up with brake fluid, clamp the master cylinder on a vice so that the cylinder is horizontal. grab to pieces of wood. put one ontop of on side of the container and another on the other. then grabbed to clamps and clamp the wood from the resivior to the bottom of the cylinder. and slowly work the tank down. now what will happen will be that the tanks will hit the bottom but you have to sorta hear a slight pop or else it doesn't mean the bushing is covering the whole tube . but becareful not to crack the tank. fortunately my tank took a beating and still hasn't cracked. but be cautious when installing the tank this way. i hope i have helped you out or atleast set you on the rite track
