probably not. your motor should be fine since it goes down, but the window might be out of alignment. Take the door apart, see if you can assist the motor into pushing the window up.

Failing that, check the wiring. There's a bad connection somewhere.

I hate to tell you this, but the shitty mazda cable system is probably shot. This is going to be an expensive fix. Take the door apart and check the regulator and the cables. Chances are the spool inside the electrical motor has worn out. You have three choices:
1. Buy a new assembly. (mazda only sells the complete assembly). BTW, figure on about $350
2. Find a good used one. (good luck, I have seen one in six months on ebay, and it was the passenger side).
3. Have yours rebuilt. (this is what i am doing)
Mazmat in Houston. 800-365-2193 $200.00

Other related info:
Only power window assemblies from a convertible will work, not a coupe. (figures, I can find a million of them)

The assemblies are side specific. What I mean, is that only the drivers side will work on the drivers side etc.

Good luck

Here's a little trick I learned from someone here. Once you have the door apart, checkout the plug for the motor (2 wires) and the one for the little light on the door (2 wires). They are exactly the same. If you plug the wire for the light in the plug for the motor the window should go up. If not your motor is dead. Keep in mind the motor will continue to run until you unplug that light plug from it so don't keep it in there long (just long enough to see if the window raises). My motor ended up being OK and I replaced the switch.

Hope this helps.

Correction to my post above^. This trick only works if the window is already up. Changing the wires will lower the window if the motor is still good. Sorry about the confusion.

Yep. My 88 vert did the same- those switches get all gunked up and quit working or work intermittently- same goes for the mirror switch. Especially if you are using the center console for a cupholder and your coke spills all over it. (;
