NCDA Drift Competition

Yesterday at Altamont Speedway NCDA held a drift day and competition. The course was a double oval track like Irwindale. We started on the big oval, cut in 180 degrees into the small oval, and then another transiton back to the big oval. Run the big oval, manji down the back straight(very scary at 75MPH with the wall right there. Only tried it twice.) and then start over.

Besides me, there were 2 other FC's. Brandon(ShadowX) and Kevin(RarestRX). There were also 3 FD's. Aren(Raziel), Reza, and another guy.

The hardest part of the track for me was the small oval to the transition back into the big oval. I was entering the turn well into 3rd gear. I could drift the turn pretty easily, but I could never find the right braking point. You had to hit the brakes to slow down enough, then drop it into 2nd and transition the car into the next turn. I only got it right once all day. Every other time I'd brake too early and come out of the drift.

I did better then I thought I would. Out of 25 competitors, I made it into the Best 8. I don't know exactly what place I got because the competition was a bit unoranized and pressed for time. My goal was just to get into the Top 16. The Top 16 was the tandem drifting. I've never tried tandem drifting so I was a bit nervous. But once I got out there I was too pumped up to care. It was so much fun. Just being that close to another car and trying to follow was a rush. I got to run against 4 different people. I think what kpt me advancing was the small oval. Everyone that I followed was breaking and going into 2nd gear for the turn. I think I might have been the only guy charging into it well into 3rd. I was getting too overzealous though with my angles and I kept spinning at the end. I'll have to learn how to calm down and just drive my lines. Overall, I'm way happy that I'm improving. And **** cone dodging, walls are fun.

Great looking photo's and thumbs up for getting out there and going sideways. I just recently attended the Primus drift track event held here in Bradenton Florida. Small, technical track yet still very fun and a very eventful weekend. Some of the most fun i'd ever had in my car was on the track on a wonderful HOT day.

Keep it up!

I was there and it was a fun day. I was wondering all day if that was rarestRX or not. Clean red GTUs is pretty damn rare. Nice talking to you Brandon. I was really digging the corksport front end. Good show guys!

Thanks for posting the cool pics, Mike. You were really tearing it up out there. I know this is an old thread but I just happened to run across it.
