name that part... :-P

1987.5 gxl
5spd
N/A

we were replacing floorboards yesterday, when i came across 2 parts that i am very curious about, the first,

it almost looks like a button, brown top... it runs along the passangers doorside, the is drilled under the seat. with two screws.. one of the wires is blue with a white tracer, and its not connected to anything... the other wire runs into the (button?)

would it be alright if i removed this part?
what is it used for?
why is this blue wire not connected?

i have pictures, but go figure my digital wont let me load them right now.

the second

it looks like a black vacume line running along the passanger door and goes all the way into the trunk.
im not sure as of now, where it runs to...

your help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

The first is the exhaust over heat sensor, not a button, if the cats over heat, you get a light on the idiot light cluster. Not sure on the other one tho.

why would an exhaust overheat sensor be under my passangers seat?
wouldnt it make more sence to have it at least mounted under the car... or even on the exhaust...

sounds like a retarted idea sence by the time my floorboards get that warm..... im sure theres a fire under my car..

If that is the exhaust overheat light sensor or whatever, it probably lights up when the sensor reads like low temperature, not like burning hot. Just if it gets too warm, before the point of ur carpets melting, seat burning, etc.

Second thing is probably for brake lights or something, or maybe for the light on the rear hatch hydrualic if you have one, since its on the passenger side.

the sensor has been proven to be pointless, i have seen cats glow yellow hot near melting and the light never came on.
