Question Name That Exhaust + Noise Question

So, it is time again to play name that exhaust setup.

This question comes about becasue I am trying to figure out how to make my exhaust a little quieter. Well, actually, my sound is FINE except for WOT between 3000 and 4000 RPM. In that range I hear what I describe as a ZINGing sound. I know that some fun stuff stats goign on around 3800 RPM (secondaries kick in and my Aux ports should be opening, though I think the later may not be, that is a problem for another day

Anyway, I think my setup is an RB header and some type of presilencer. Can I get some help with what I have and what options I have as far as fixing my ZING? I was told the presilencer may be causing this. Is that possible?

BTW catback was stock until a few month or so ago when the noise was starting to drive me CRAZY and i had the DEAD mufflers removed and I put on some "normal" mufflers from the chain store down the road. They seemed to reduce the noise to almost perfect, except for the ZING(The ZING was there before, but there was also a lotof other noise all through the RPM's)

Whew...On with the pics...

That I guess would make sense. If they guy bought the RB headers, he probably got the presilencer as well.

I assume as the name implies that a presilencer is just to quiet the exhaust. What is inside of it? Could it be "worn" out like mufflers get? Do you/anybody knwo a way to check one out? I feel like the noise is comming from there. I am not sure why, sometimes it some liek that is where the noise is, though I hear it out the back off the car the most, I can hear it from under the car when i have the windows down..

the presilencers from racing beat are stainless steel wool packed. The RB mufflers also have a ceramic wool packing. I doubt you would ever wear one out unless it was used on a race car for a couple of seasons. RB doesn't fool around. That **** lasts very nicely.

If you want to make your exhaust a little quieter.... add a dual chamber resonator to your setup! You'll have to sacrifice minimal power loss but it will be much quieter! I had to do it to mine, I couldn't stnd the loud droaning of the muffler throughout the car!

So, I don't have the RB mufflers, I want to get them b/c I have heard they are very good. I was just never sure if what I have already will bolt up to them.

The Stock crap that was on there before actaully had some sort of steel mesh stuff coming out of them when I decided they were is too **** poor condition to keep on the car. I opted for the $190 solution down the road rather than the RB cans. When I pyut the $190 specials on there the car sounded MUCH MUCH better. (BTW I told the guy that installed them that the rotary has HOT exhaust and that they might burn these mufflers up but I was still given the lifetime warenty, so I figured if they last 6 months I will try and get another set for free)

But anyway, do you think that maybe the mufflers are causing this ZING sound? Why woudl I only hear it under heavy throttle at a certain RPM range?

Where would I purchase sure a thing? I think i might be abel to live with a little loss in power IF I could get rid of more of the shitty sound. I dislike people looking at me funny as a pass them

it might be the 3k rpm drone you get with collected exausts? I hate that ****
:-p

If you have the stock Y-pipe the RB mufflers bolt right on if you don't want to pay for the entire cat-back.

Hhahaha, yeah I delt with the same thing! Any good muffler shop should have them, just be sure it's not a straight through glasspack resonator..... or you'll be sounding like a civic in a few weeks time! Dual chamber resonator and your set!

If you have the stock Y-pipe the RB mufflers bolt right on if you don't want to pay for the entire cat-back.

W00t. Just what I wanted.. A CIVIC....

Where does this thing go. I think the mufflers I have now where welded onto the stock y-pipe. Woudl they need to take stuff apart and insert inbetween or does it go in somewhere else?

Sorry for all the navie questions...

It looks like the stock flange, but still hard to tell.....

The resonator would go between the y pipe and your presilencer.... unless you take out the presilencer and run a downpipe to the resonator....

A down pipe? Now I have read a little bit of exhaust stuff, and I am going to get flamed for not searching, but in the context of this post: What is a downpipe, why would I want/not want to replace a presilencer with a DP?

so the resonater would go between the presilencer and the y pipe, or between the headers and the y pipe if you decided to take out the presilencer.

How would this fit in if I decided to go with one? Woudl they have to custom fit it in or what? seems like there is not a lot of room to put anything in without removing something...

Yeah it would definitely be a custom job, but nothing difficult. Honestly I'd just take out the presilencer and put the resonator between the header and the y-pipe. It toned down my Turboed Rx by about 30% or so. Believe me it was well worth it!

I have an S4, and my presilencer has a split air pipe to actuate the Aux ports. Would a resonator have this?

To tell you the thruth, I am not sure sure my ports are openign anyway and i am thinking of removing then, so this isn't a show stopper.

What advantage was a resonator have over a presilencer?
