NA exhaust porting?
I'm rebuilding an S4 NA and I want to port the motor, but what should I do about the exhaust sleave. I know I should get TII housings but I dont want to go though all that trouble are there any other options? Thanks

IT would take you no less than 4 hours and 10 grinding bits to grind out the damn NA diffusers. Really, a plasma cutter is the only way. What was done on that engine is t2 exhaust sleeves pinned in place of the stock NA versions.

I'll have a Coke!
yeah those diffusers are really tough metal. if you insist on doing it yourself take your time and do it right. if you mess up something you will be shelling out for new housings anyways.

Read what Kevin (hypntyz7) wrote carefully:
You can remove the sleeves by removing the crush pins that hold them in... then replace them with sleeves from "trashed" TII housings. MUCH simpler, quicker, and frankly probably cheaper than buying all those bits.

I don't know what kind of crappy assed bits you use... Took me about 1.5hrs to do both of my housings. Still have every bit I started my porting with too.
The inserts are stainless steel, so they're harder than the cheaper cutting bits on the market. If you really want to use a cutting bit to take them out you'll need to spring the $80 for a carbide bit. (really not worth it)
Start with an abrasive blade in the sawzall and cut the diffusers off at their bases. Then use a fine grinding bit and take the rest of them down to smooth out the nubs that'll be left. Try and get as close to the wall of the insert as possible, this'll lessen the amount of grinding you'll need to do.
1.5hrs is just to get the diffusers out completely. Took a couple more hours to make the ports perfect.

Yeah, and I usually draw the line when the swearing gets out of hand.  Friction is inevitable.  Hell, I screwed up on a recent oil post myself.  But, I'm not going to go warning people left and right, especially if it stays like this thread - it's too sedate for me to go threatening a warning...
