N332-N333 compatability

i want to know if an N332 ecu will work properly with an 88 engine/harness/injectors(n333 stuff).

i was sent one by mistake and want to know if it will work as a substitute.

i tried plugging it in and the car ran like crap, like the timing was way retarded or it was dumping in too much fuel, wouldn't idle. swapped back to an N333 and it idles fine at 1k and revs easily.

does anyone know what else is different between the ECUs besides one being designed for low/high impedence injectors?

in this thread it doesn't go into detail, but sounds like it should work.

if it SHOULD work then one of the ECUs is kind of fubar.

with the N332 the car will not idle and trys to run at 200rpm. when the gas pedal is pushed down it BARELY revs so i have to punch it and the engine is working really hard(in neutral) and spinning the turbo up then massive breakup at 5krpm.

with the N333 the car cranks and idles at 1krpm just fine, revs freely but has a breakup in upper rpm or under load.(i think this is actually a fuel pump problem)

would the timing be different between the two ECUs?

I've interchanged N332's and N333's and I never could tell the difference in how it ran. I think you are correct that your N332 is fubar.

i got this engine timed and running on the N333, is it possible my settings are all wrong and the N332 is actually ok?

im just trying to work out all possiblities here.

I agree with RX3SP. I have both the 332 and 333, and can't tell the difference in my '87 TII. And, according to Icemark in the thread I linked earlier, there should be no discernable difference. So, I think if your car runs well with the 333, it should run just the same with the 332, unless the 332 is messed up.

Exactly, if it runs well with the N333 and poorly with the N332 and the ECU swap is the only change that you made, then your N332 is not well.

If you swap ECU do you have to time the car again? I have a 10th AE with and i just upped for the Rtek1.7 on my N333 but for some reason the car runs worse on that one then when i swap it with my N332. In fact with the rtek1.7 I believe i hear it pinging. I timed it if i am not mistaken on the N332. The car also seems to miss more with the N333. I have upgraded 720cc 2nd's. I think i read that the injectors are different for one of the ECU's is that true?

The ECU's should be swappable.
If the engine runs funny on one ECU, then that ECU is no good.

Funtion wise, they are both the same.
Internally, the ROM's are programmed differently - but this doesn't matter to you.

No, ignition timing setting is identical for both ECU's.

What about impedance?

Both ECUs have the same impedance?

What if you have high impedance (red) injectors and you put in the 332 (which is low impedance iirc)?

Do some searching...

Impedence is controlled by resistors in the ENGINE WIRING HARNESS - not the ECU.
The ECU doesn't really know that you're running high or low impedence fuel injectors, cause the low impedence fuel injectors are being "jacked down" by resistors inline installed in the engine wiring harness.
