N/A insturment cluster int TII?

I am pondering trying to swap an S5 N/A insturment cluster into my TurboII (also S5) I would much prefer to have the in dash volt meter over the stock boost gauge being that I have an aftermarket digital boost gauge.

Anyone ever tried this (on S4 or S5)? Does the voltmeter work when this is done?

And please no responses like "Well your redline will be wrong with the N/A dash cluster!" I know the differences between all 4 differen insturment clusters. I just wonder of the voltmeter in the N/A unit will function when plugged into a TII?

Yeah, it will work just fine. If you want to retain your 7000 RPM redline you can get a S5 NA Auto tranny inst cluster.

i wonder why it works. I use my NA cluster because the TII one was busted (physically) and the voltmeter just worked...tricky mazda.

I am in the process of doing this too. This might help:

Remember when switching clusters, that series is important. If you change series, you will need to re-pin (move the wires) the harness that plugs into the back of the cluster.

Because the voltmeter picks up its signal from the same voltage that powers all the gauges.

See the meter fuse feeds the cluster for the oil pressure, temp, fuel level, etc. The voltemeter just taps onto that same power wire on the circuit board.

ok so what kinda work would be required for a s5 N/A gauge cluster to work with a 88' s4 t2? and lets say i have a boost meter already. or if i used a s5 t2 gauge cluster with the higher redline, would that cause problems for the engine?

You would need to repin the gauge harness

The S5 Turbo has a lower redline than the S5 Manual tranny non-turbo... so not sure what you mean. The S5 Turbo gauge cluster has a 7K redline, while the S5 manual tranny non turbo gauge cluster has a 8K redline.

If you used the S5 manual tranny non turbo gauges in a turbo car, you would just have a redline about 1K too high for the engine, or you would want to swap the S5 Turbo tach into the S5 non turbo gauge cluster.

what about aftermarket gauges with they're 9k redlines that go all the way up to 10k or 11k? sorry about the dumb questions i just dont know too much about the electronic portion. plus i heard you were the 2nd gen section guru. haha.

if you used the redline of 8k for the turbo engine. what would happen? could it handle 1k rpm more?
