N/A Aluminum hood?
Two quick questions about Aluminum hoods on an N/A car (no scoop)..
1) What models were they on?
2) What's the going price for them?
I may have a line on one, and I'm interested in some of the background.

My convertible has one, and so do the GTUs models. My '90 GTU didn't and I don't think the GXL's had them (could be wrong on that one). I don't know about the '91 coupe.
Other than that, I'm not sure.

I'm not sure about the Series 5, but the Series 4 seemed to have them on a random basis. If you can't tell the difference by looking, then just take a magnet with you to the salvage yard.
The price of a used aluminum hood depends a lot on its condition, and how badly the owner's wife is on his case to get it out of the front yard.
Basically, you are looking at between "come get it and it's yours" to about $250 for the NA hood.
I paid $450 for an aluminum TII hood once, but it was in showroom condition, and the paint was the correct color for my car. This was the most expensive used FC hood that I have seen, but it was worth it to me because I didn't have to waste my time fixing the dings and repainting the thing.

Aviator is correct. Though there is a lot of chaff thrown up to confuse the issue, from 86-88 there seems to be a random amount of hoods that were aluminum. Watch out because there are some TII hoods around from those years that are steel. The converse of your question.
Aluminum hoods have the hood latch riveted in unlike the steel hoods and the weight is different. If you have no weight standard of reference, make sure the rivets are around the hood latch and that you get the hood lifts (one on each side of car by windshield, 2 bolts each hold on hood) since they are aluminum also and won't corrode your new aluminum hood like the steel ones will.

my 86' Base N/A has aluminum hood, friend told me it was rare... Shrug, I'm happy it's aluminum. Steel hoods are HEAVY, I can carry this aluminum hood with one arm. it's not heavy enough to just drop and lock by itself, have to set it down and push it down to lock it... and hail does a good number on it =)
Much funner driving with no hood though =)

Bought it!
Thanks guys - I went to the wrecker's yard today and bought the thing - according to the VIN on the receipt, it was from an '86. $75 Canadian, which is about $50 US.
It'll need a repaint from me first trying to stuff it into my Bonneville (Didn't work
) and then carrying it home in the rex, (note to self - DO NOT drive with the hatch open again until the cats are back on the car!) but holy cow is that thing light!
I carried easily across the wrecker's yard, but almost got a hernia lifting the old steel hood across the car port.
Thanks (as always) for the info!
