Question Mystery Wire- What is this for? (PIC)

Hey guys,

I garaged my 7 tonight so I can start on my OMP tomorrow; when I parked it I noticed a wire was unplugged (I dont ever remember unplugging it)- I was able to find what looks to be the other end it plugs into- but I was wondering: WHAT is this wire for? I have no idea. If anyone could, please elaborate.

(By the way, the wire and these pictures are on the drivers side of the engine bay- and pic 2 would sit roughly below and slightly left of pic 1 if it was all one image)

This first pic is of one of the ends of wire- the upper, smaller arrow points out where it joins up with the larger peice of wiring (the rest of the wiring harness), and the lower, larger arrow points out the end of the wire that should plug into (im guessing) the wire in image 2.

Image 2

Okay, and now here is image 2 (I had to upload these as attachments, I dont have an image server)

On this image, the arrow point out the other end of the wire, and the red curved lines in a y-shape show the structure of the wires it joins up with (one going left, towars the batteries general direction, and the other going up, towards the engines direction).

...Anybody know what this wire is for? I was surprised to lift my hood and see it unplugged, and so now I am wondering what it does.

That should go to the ground block that's attached to the slave cylinder. Normally, the clutch slave cylinder has a small black "box" with a wire coming from it on one of the bolts holding it to the tranny. These ALWAYS seem to get lost when people mess with the slave cylinder.

Anyhow, that ground is for the oil pressure sender - with it not attached, you can likely get low/no readings on the oil pressure gauge.

If you lost the ground part, I'd recommend finding one from a junkyard, someone who's parting out a car, etc. You can't just ground the wire, you need that little block to be in there too. The part is common and is standard on all manual transmission cars (and probably on autos) from 86-91, turbo and non turbo.

I believe that there is supposed to be a small condensor (resistor type thing) that it plugs into. HAILERS posted some info on this plug a short time ago. I'll see if I can dig it up.

besides the AAS wires, there's a few on everyone's cars we can't figure out. I know one is probably for an engine warmer right?

okay, so are you guys saying there should be a piece in between these two wires that they both plug into? I never saw an extra piece, they both seem to have enough slack and the right ends to hook into each other without a middle piece. So then, do I need to scrounge for a piece to go in between them before I hook them up to each other? If anyone knows, please confirm this- I dont wanna hook the wires back up and have it mess something up because I was missing a middle piece.

You can just hook those two plugs together if they have the joining ends on them. I was just pointing out that the one wire is not just gounded; it is connected to a condensor. But yours probably already is connected to this condensor which is located on the actual block not the manifold as I mentioned in the other thread. The condensor is a small 1/2 in x 1/2 in black square that is bolted onto the block around the oil filler neck.

Just clip those two plugs together and you should be fine. It is possible that you might have been getting incorrect oil pressure readings on the gauge with the plug disconnected, but it shouldn't have done any harm.
