mystery throttle problem?

i searched the forums, but didnt really know what to search for,

tonight on my way home, driving on the freeway, 4th gear, all of a sudden my rpms drop, and its like im cruising, then they pick back up, and then down, and then back up

so i pull over onto the side of the road, and open my hood, it idled fine, so i gave it some gas and held it there, the rpms would hold for a few seconds, then drop for a few seconds, so i turned it off for a few minutes, and when i started it back up, it was fine and i was able to drive home

any clues?

TPS!!!! same sympotoms as i had, im on my 5th one already, they arent reliable...pieces of crap

go to a radio shack and get the yellow ohm meter, it costs like 18$ i think and take it to the tps...
dont think its a vacuum leak because you drove it normally after a couple of minutes and it idled fine

Oh, I don't know about that. Mine's 18 years old with 209K on it and still doing fine...I'm sure there are lots of guys on the forum that could say the same thing...I'm sure you put USED ones on there to get to your total of 5, right?...

Back on topic, just in case it's not the TPS, I've had an intermittent water thermo sensor connector that caused just about the same symtoms you're describing.

Check out that TPS first, though. You can easily read it from the ECU while driving, that way if you see the meter fall at the same time the power falls, you'll know that's your bad puppy...

Search for a thread titled "troubleshooting from the ECU" or something close to that, if you're interested in the ECU thing...

could this also be the reason for my car not making a damn of a difference whether im full throttle or quarter throttle?

ill push quarter throttle, and it will go up however many rpms, and i hit full throttle, and the acceleration is exactly the same, it will just go to higher rpms, or is it just cuz i own an n/a?
