My winked headlight Intake

this is how i set up my intake, i zip tyed themy intake up to where it was almost tuching the hood of my car direcly behind my headlights, took the fuse out for the headlighs and manualy brought tem up till they where almost level to the ground. also i do not have the black plastic in because otherwise winked headlights would no bring in any air. But anyways after i did this i can tell a diff in how it pulls after about 20mph because the air is being pushed into the intake at around that speed. The cone filter i have is a bonez Filter which is good for this because it also brings in air from the front of the filter instead of just the sides

true, i just wanted to make sure you didnt cook your engine...

also, you might want to make something out of some sheet metal to go around that and box it off, to make sure you dont suck in engine heat

Sorry, but that just looks like the headlights are broken, and the FTP lenses have fallen out.

Plus at low speed you're just sucking hot engine bay air. At least put a heat shield in there.

BTW, without the shroud, the fan will just be blowing air around the engine bay. It won't be pulling any air through the radiator. Put it back on or keep a very close eye on the temp gauge when stopped...

damn it not again i already had a whole tread wasted from people talkin about it without a shroud. look ive had it off for some time now my car hasnt over heated yet and the fan is usless if you moving more than 20mph technically you dont need it if you arnt always stopped ill do what i want you can do what you want so if you think it looks broken them ok whatever i could care less at least it serves a good function and who cares if its suckin in hot air all it does is effects preformance a little and how does it look like my ftp lenses fell out i took them out cuz it looks better than how it used to look

Kids...

Whatever man, it's not like I'm not making this stuff up just to annoy you. I'm just giving you info on how to make your car go better. If you want to ignore that it's no skin off my nose.

Next time you want to rant though, throw in some commas and full stops. It took me ages to figure out what you were saying.

lol NZ hey guys, on a side note. i also switch it up sometimes and drive with the headlights beaming out of the Ftp holes (because i have no lenses) It doesnt bother me, and i get plenty of light..

i usually do this when i am crusing on long highway runs. my headlights motors are long no worky so i just put them all the way down for highway runs.. (less drag.. or something)

Your intake = stock. The gains that you see from more air filter area are cancelled out by the hot air that you are sucking in to your engine. When I finally got around to building my cold air box with a buddy of mine I was absolutely amazed at how much hp I gained. The butt dyno told me around 10-15 horse over what my cone filter suckin was suckin in before....hot engine bay air.

The filter sucks soo much air that your ftp hole is not going to be able to supply it with enough cold air to push back the hot engine bay air.

-Lee

PS- Cut through the metal alongside your radiator and remove your front bumper supports....stick a 4" dryer duct in there that runs down to the front bumper grill and you will swear that you are driving a new car hehe.

i didnt say i was using the ftp lenses for air hardly any air gets into the engine compartment from the ftp's thats why my headlights are half way up to draw in air through the top and sides around the light, you would have to see it to know what im talkin about but it provides alot of air. like sayd before i am going to make a box for it later i just havent got aroud to it like many other things and yea ive seen that tube thing your talkin about and want to do that to.
And NZConvertible SORRY if i cant spell all that great you dont need to give me **** for it ive already graduated from high school without failing any classes seven though i can not spell all that great so i dont need your **** why dont you take you stupid *** comments and take them elsewhere i dont want to here anything else from you, havent heard one positive thing out of you yet

im interested in doin up the sleepy eye dealy.
i know this guy who has an MR2 with sleepy eyes and he installed fog lights into where the headlights go, it looks very nice.

Did you just remove the retractor fuse? ....how do you adjust the height, i never really dug into that part of my car. Any advice before i jump in?

There is a little **** on each headlight mechanism. Reach under the car and look for a little boot (if it hasn't fallen off), remove that and you will see a white ****.

If you don't remove the fuse or disconnect your battery the headlight will wink at you and try to twist your fingers. I think its some type of anti-theft/"don't open my hood", device. I was kinda shocked and laughed my *** off when it happened!!

Watch the flames guys.

And if you have not noticed any temp problems with the removed shroud, your temp guage is broken.

nope its not i works fine get over the shroud already this thread has nothing to do with a shroud
and Diavolo bobbyrx explained it pretty good, read his post also if your doing this take the plastic out from around your headlights cuz otherwise its a looks kinda thing and wont provide your intake with any air. i heard you can buy a kit to make them still work but you can put them down or up or winked the way i did it is just the cheep way.

PS. This is Rx-7Blazin just on my freinds name

"Post count = knowlege"?

Maybe there is some truth to that . . . if all the posts were correct info to begin with. One user comes to mind with 3000+ posts . . .

"!=" means NOT EQUAL. Old Unix/C code. Same as "<>" in modern BASIC varients.

Just pointing out that high post count does not necessarily equate to knowledge.

Looks like it would really screw up the aerodyamics of the car as well.

Suddenly you have the lights always up and these big holes in the bumper that go no where.

And the head light up also will not provide any additional air into the engine compartment unless you remove the rubber gaskets for the hood anyway (which raises the aerodynamic drag even higher).

So why take them out? It looks like ***...
...thats why my headlights are half way up to draw in air through the top and sides around the light, you would have to see it to know what im talkin about but it provides alot of air.
Have you taken temperature readings at the filter to prove that? It's been pointed out several times that without a shield to seperate the filter from the engine bay this won't work. Most of the air being sucked into the filter will be hot engine bay air. All it does is ruin the smooth lines (not to mention aerodynamics) of the car and make it look like a junker with missing bits. There are much more elegant ways to get cold air to the filter. The forum is full of posts about them.
SORRY if i cant spell all that great you dont need to give me **** for it...
Your spelling isn't that bad, it's your punctuation that sucks. Without any full stops and commas yout posts just sound like a big rant.
...why dont you take you stupid *** comments and take them elsewhere i dont want to here anything else from you, havent heard one positive thing out of you yet
Like I said, I'm just trying to help you make your car go better. If you've read my posts in other threads you should've figured I'm much more interested in improving people's car than stroking their ego's with undeserved compliments.

You are wrong in the assumptions you've made about how well you modifications work. If you can't take a little constructive critisism then why bother posting about what you've done? Show a little maturity and don't dismiss so quickly the advice of people who have been doing this a lot longer than you have and have already made the same mistakes.
