My turn now, car caught on fire!!!!
What else can I say but CRAP!!! came home from work tonight, pulled up in the driveway, and what do i see, smoke coming from the hood of my 87 t2. oh ****. i pop the hood and open it a little, and there are flames shooting out. i ran inside and grabbed a couple glasses of water (i wasn't thinking to clearly, i had a hose right there outside by the car), and ran out, got the hose, and my step dad got the extinguisher, and we opened the hood and put it out as fast as we could. i don't know what the damage is yet. the crappy thing is that it was scheduled to go into the shop on tuesday because of a strong fuel smell. damn. so, a word of advice, CHECK YOU PULSATION DAMPERS AND FUEL LINES IF YOU CAN SMELL FUEL AT ALL, DON'T WAIT LIKE I DID.
a question:
what now? i guess the insurance company will come look at it and tell me whether it is totalled or not. i don't even know what happens now.
what a crappy night.

but anyways, yes that sucks so bad
poor poor car
Good luck, if there is such a thing w/ these kinda cases.

Seriously though, that sucks CR. Hopefully the car isn't totalled. If you have full coverage you shouldn't have to worry about it. You can go buy another car or be like me and buy another FC...and then blow the engine 9 months later.

Just be happy if you've got full coverage on your insurance. I didn't and now I'm paying a sh%# load out of pocket!
You can bet you fried your harness... If you decide to do rebuild let me know so I can tell you where I got all the parts for decent prices.
Good luck man, hope it all goes well .

hey,i might as well ad my flame-story too... .rest assured, mine had nothing to do with pulation dampners.my main power supply to the starter shorted out,and all the insulation cought on fire...all i knew,i had run inside, and heard the car "miss" slightly....stuck my head out the window,to see what was going on...smoke was pouring out from under the hood..ran over, turned the car off,and opened the hood.pretty blue and yellow flames where liking up along the firewall...no extinguisher,i grabbed a bottle full of water[the best thing for elektrical fires ]and dumped it on there...luck was with me,i got the flames out!!a trip down to the auto parts store and a few buck later,i installed a new powercable and was on the road a couple of hours later...first stop?bought a extinguisher.[there was that time when i had a elek. fire in my truck, too, but i had a extinguisher for that one,so not very exiting..heh]
sorry to hear about your car, thou!!

i do have full coverage on my car, however, the deductable is $1000. but im thinking that the damage will be more than that. im kind of thinking they will total it. its got 152,000 original miles on it, and all though it is pretty clean car, it can't be worth that much right? i kind of want it to be totalled anyways, im ready to move on to a different car. ive been having problems with this one ever since i hit 140,000. its been a non-stop money pit since then. its to the point where it just stresses me out.
i had thought this morning that i should keep an extinguisher in the car, but i figured that there was no way my car would catch on fire. boy was i wrong.
i guess i can look at the bright side and say that i didn't get hurt and i didn't burn down the house or anything. time to move on hopefully. ill keep you guys updated. thanks for the support.
