I went to the parts store to get a few things the other day, oil, plugs, O2 sensor, filter, just stuff for a my normal spring time tune up., and as usuall I had to pretty much explain what a rotary was to the guy behind the counter, cuz when I said leading and trailing plugs he gave me a kinda ..WTF face. Anyway, some other guy that worked there heard us talking I guess, and tried to tell me that I was wrong abouth the plugs. He said that the turbos get 4 leading and the N/As get 4 trailing. Im like..uh..no.. Anyway, we argued about it for a few minutes, then he just called me a dumbass kid who didnt know what I was talking about. , and that I should go ahead and put the two different plugs in my car, cuz when it blows up, itll be one less riceburner on the streets. I wanted to punch him in the head, I hate stupid people. Anyway, thats my rant.
That's when you just ask for certain things. When they ask why, say it's a custom engine, and you KNOW what you need. Say you built it yourself even if you didn't. Yes, people that work in parts stores aren't mechanics so they aren't quite as knowledgable.
that's when you bet him one years salary, and show him the owners manual and collect your funds then use the moeny to get you some"rice burner" mods!!! that'll teach the bastard. i had one guy at my school( i go to a mechanic training school mind you) that has a GTUs too, he told me that cause i have an 87 that i don;t hace 6 ports that i have a four port motor!! i was like uh ok and you think you know some thing? just have to let it go cause those are the people that will be serving you with a smile "would you like fries with that?"

Just do what I do,
Order your tune up parts from Racing Beat, or your mail order RX7 store of choice, a couple of weeks ahead of time and then you won't have to deal with the idiots at the local boinger (piston engine) parts stores.
Besides, If those dopes really knew anything about working on ANY car, they would be working at a repair shop making $15 to $40 an hour, not pushing parts from behind a counter.

I went to advanced auto parts today... I just went to pick up some new wiper blades. I pulled up right at the front of the store, and i was one of only 3 or so costumers in the store when the one help guy asked if he could see my car. "I've never seen an RX-7 befor... can I take a look?" I said sure...
We went outside, and I popped the hood. Nothing fancy. Just my stock n/a. This is when he proceeded to ask me why i had a 4 banger under my hood. That my car looks way too nice to have such a small crappy 4 piston engine. He suggested I put in some 6 cyl vtec. I didn't mention right away that it was rotary. After I went inside and got my wipers, he rung me up... when he did i leaned over and said it was a rotary engine... there are no pistons. That's when he got this blank look on his face and blushed.
like salgoud said... if they knew anything about cars, they'd be working in shops, not pushing parts at some store.
