My TPS readings...(still bucking?)

ok so i replaced all the vaccum lines i could get to without taking too much apart, and my car was bucking. i had a second motor in my garage with a tps on it so i decided to use that one. these are the readings i got from each TPS

On the Car:
Idle 1K OHMS
Full 8.6K OHMS

The one i replaced it with:
Idle 1K OHMS
Full 4.86K OHMS

In the FSM it says 5K OHMS plus or minus one so i figured i was okay...

what is next for me to look at replacing in an attempt to stop my bucking problem. maybe if i adjust so that it is just above 1K at idle so its closer to 5K at full? the bucking seems to be a lot better than it was but its still there a little bit.

Fuel Filter?
Fuel Pump?

any ideas...im open for...

The TPS max & min values are fine, but how about the smoothness of the sweep in values between them?

If there is a worn spot above idle, as you accelerate the ECU will suddenly see a brief idle signal and give a fuel cut.

Here is a night time video from when my TPS was worn out.

damn...that sucks cause im poor. well its not too bad and i dont have money for a new one right now so i guess its gonna have to wait. i can go just before full throttle and it works fine. i actually have a third used TPS i can try but we will see what happens....

oh and can i use my third tps...its off an NA but i have a TII. i dont see any reason why i cant as long as the readings are the same but maybe im wrong?

Thanks,
Matt

Before you ditch the TPS - try spray contact cleaner between the sleeve & plunger.
Spray it in.
Work the plunger.
Repeat.
That may buy you some time.

I found it in the electrical section at Home Depot.
It's also good for connectors, door lock position sensors, logicon buttons & sliders, stereo buttons & *****, etc.

The TPS plunger assemblies are the same but the brackets are different.
You can swap the resistor assembly by bending up the tabs on the thin steel clip that holds it to the bracket.

ahhh...good idea. ill pick some of that up and give it a try. i need to get an analog meter to test how smooth the sweep is, and ill try the contact cleaner. hopefully this will all make it better...i dont have money to replace right now.

Another thing you might want to try is setting the TPS using the twin lamp method. I found with my 91 NA that when I set it to 1KOHM exactly, both lamps will light. Car also doesn't idle well and will buck. When I adjust it to one lamp lit the resistance is between 1050 and 1075 but the car idles much better and doesn't buck.
