Is my TPS bad?

Is my TPS bad?
I have kind of an odd problem with the TPS on my 87 N/A. I set the TPS to spec about 4 months ago so it should still be good, I don't have a multimeter to check it again.
So if I have it pluged in it will run fine, idles good, no hesitation, it's perfect. Then I'll go to start my car, doesn't matter if it's hot or cold, and I hit a wall around 1500 RPMs. it just bounces between 1300- 1600. If I unplug the TPS it runs good, except for backfireing more and the usual.
Then about 3-4 days later it will do the same thing where it hits the wall around 1500. So I plug the TPS back in and it runs good for about three days, then I'll start it up and hit the wall. So I unplug it again and it just goes back and forth every few days. I really have no idea what to think. And I've tried just unpluging it and pluging it back in and that doesnt work.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
