Arrow My Tail light mod

So I was at the junkyard when I found a totalled 7 with everything broken except for the s4 tail lights so I bought them for $15 because I have always wanted to attempt the tail light smoking. I added a little strip of color to them because I remembered how fugly they look totally black on a red car from an old thread, Im not to sure how I like the look yet what do you guys think? It took about 3 coats of black and 6 coats of clear, it looks pretty good except for the upper right hand lense which had a small crack which I circled but it covered up real nice.

So what do you think, I bought the set of s4's at the junkyard and was bored so I tapped till 2am. It took 3 coats of black and 6 coats of clear. There was a small crack in the upper right lense which I circled in White in the second picture. I also remembered how bad all black tails look on a red 7 so I tapped a strip horizontally to add alittle color what do you guys think?

did you use black paint? If you were going for the true 'smoked' look, I would've recommended VHT Niteshade... It's not just paint. I'm not sure if you can really see from the small pic, but in my avatar you can kind of see what it looks like with the Niteshade. Oh, and on my white TII you can see where I used the Niteshade on my FTP's etc.

The Niteshade isn't opaque like paint.

How did you get the paint to come out opaque over the lenses? I've got a black S4 and I think that would look good on my car if I did the whole lenses like that (left the unpainted strip out). When i was into model airplanes I would do something similar to the canopy's by using one thin layer of masking tape and laying on a thick layer of black spray paint and letting it sit over night. When i pulled the tape off the next day it would give the plastic a "tint."

any particular reason for starting 3 threads on this??? Threads merged

And this mod:
would be illegal in California (and probably most other states as well) as it covers the reflector.

I hate to always be the one to bring this up, but whos the fucktard that thinks covering brake lights is a GOOD thing? If you ever get rear ended and the other guy has an insurance comapny, if they're insurance agent notices spraypaint on the tail lights, guess who's fault the accident becomes...

Of all the modifications you can make to an FC, why are you doing one that serves no purpose, and furthermore increases the possibility of damage to the car.

And I could imagine the contrast would only make them harder to be seen on a white car...

I hope you never have to drive in fog or your fucked.

I want to see them on the car! It's a cool idea, makes the lights look somewhat like my girl's 89 Corolla SR5's lights.

Hey, calm down you two :-p

i think it'd be cool to just have the outline of the tails glow like Nubian said, i almost did that with my extra set i have (ones cracked so i just let it be for now, plus they need cleaning and the trim ring painted) **** i need to paint my calipers and wheels tonight i might as well try that with my extra set (painting wheels graphite color, and i have a red ceramic caliper paint kit, GO DUPLICOLOR)

ok bonehead... the gloves are off. i put 3500 on my car last year.. everynice day i could drive. got caught in rain once, garage kept. thats besides the piont. why does your dumbass get so upset about other peoples "ghetto mods". you really need help or something. better yet someone kick the dick off his cross. go hang at some other site where you can feel nice and cozy cutting people down for no reason. btw.. his lights in the middle are 100% STOCK. if you cant see him comin, you should get your eyes checked. mine last time i checked are quite bright also. its the people that do not do it proper you should refer to! im guessin your 18-20 and have recently been laid and feel very cocky for self affirmation. im guessin that vocabulary is above your redneck *** so grab a dictionary and figure it out!

I'll never understand why people who have nothing valuable to offer, continually post just to rile feathers....are you kidding me?! You don't have anything better to do than pass insults on a car that's not even yours? Mind your business.

Sorry I'm bombing your post...I'm done.

meh, i was doing the same to you.

just saying its a safety issue. Its the same reason I bitch about people who use 5pt harnesses without roll cages...

Anyhow, I'll follow your mature lead and drop it.

^ great minds think alike... I have spent a lot of time photo-shopping and sketching the BEST thing to do with the s5 tails (not leaving them stock). They have SO much potential for being greater. Anyways, bad news and good. What you're suggesting is very difficult for several reasons... Although I was leaning on doing what you're suggesting for several months, after getting my taillights and trying to initiate this plan PRACTICALLY, I've decided it can't be done proper. I do have a little secret that I'm planning to do on my s5's, if you're interested PM me and I'll share it with you. It's nothing revolutionary, but I've never seen it done before and it looks MODERN. I've yet to see it on my car, but it looks AMAZING off the car--no painting required.

I'd definitely like to see pics of it on the car and lit up.

One thing I'm working on (as I get time and more importantly money) is a LED mod - drill the tail light reflectors with LEDs, and create a "wall of light" effect. Less power draw, brighter, faster response, and I'm pretty sure I can use the same LEDs for the headlights as for the brake lights (got some minor magic up my sleeve).

I think it would be cool if someone painted a black X across each tail light, it would look real rally style. people would think you have ghetto electriacl tape on them!
