My Series 5 exploded!

hi guys.. well lets see. I was parked ever so casually at the lights in my project car who just had a healthy $6.5K put into the engine when i put my foot down at the green light somethig in the engine exploded!. i turned the car off and restarted it. it started fine but alas my stock automatic transmission would not put it into gear... I have a feeling it's the gear box.. but im unsure. what do you all think? i'm a little worried poor old Eleanor will cost me a fortune to fix. if it's just the gearbox i'm putting in a 5spd man trans.... but it could be more.. any ideas or thoughts to ease my mind?

Sounds like a transmission problem, but check to see if you killed your rear differential.

I would think that it would let you shift into drive, if it was the rear diff.. I'm guessing a problem with the torque converter (inside of an auto tranny). To be fair though, I don't even test drive automatic cars for myself, so I'm not that familiar with them

if the toqure converter exlpoaded then you would have ATF everywhere and it wouldnt affect the shifting, maybe something in the valve body. put the car up on a rack and pull the pan off the tranny and check out the linkage and the valve body, or push the emergency button to get rid of the lock on shifting

it might have been your transmission but you should check and see if you destroied your rear differential.
