I would tend to agree. I would have liked to have removed the secondary lens on the outside tail. Just didn't think of that prior to starting the project.

Based upon how the lights now function, the bar in the middle to me looks great.
See pic's:

Regarding the whole shutter speed . . . . hey thanks for letting me know that.

Contrary to what some have stated, I actually did do a little fore thought prior to setting out on just doing this because I wanted to. I set the lens holes up to be exactly in front or as close as possible to the bulbs themselves - to achieve the most light intensity possible. - the reason for the slightly larger gap between the holes.

[IMG][/IMG]

Bottom line: I am not going to do something that isn't safe. If I didn't feel the lights were bright or visible enough, no way would I continue on this project.
Many people have informed me that they will in "fact", not be bright enough, or visible enough.
Well, did they try it themselves w/ the placements I set my lens holes at? Or is it really that they are just passing on what they heard someone else say and took it as truth?
Sorry, but - " I reject your reality, and replace it w/ my own" - I love that line from Mythbusters.
Like them or dislike them, sure, we all have our opinions.
Like I said as my title thread, just sharing an idea.

Thanks,

TFitz.

Those "failed attempts" I was referring to looked exactly like yours...

For the record, I didn't say that. I only said the amount of light is considerably reduced. Less area for light to come out means less light. Simple. This has been done many times. I've seen it done with paint, stickers, etc, (you're just doing it the hard way), always with the holes lined up with the bulbs (not rocket science...) and the result is always the same. The lighting is considerably reduced and it looks butt fugly.

NZ, would you not see his tail lights at night in front of you?

I bet my entire salary that I would still see him at night especially if he braked.

all that work for just a cover. you should have bagged the stock side and installed circular truck lights and small reverse lights in the empty space by the plate holder.

Regardless of what people will say about the look of the mod, it is obviously QUITE well done here.

So you think there's too much stock lighting, and reducing it by over half is okay? If you guys don't get the benefits of good external lighting, I'm not going to waste my time trying to explain it.

These actually look worse than the crappy aftermarket lights that Honda drivers seem to love, and you guys rip **** out of those. Interesting double standard...

Hold up, don't be putting words into my mouth NZ. I never said there was to much lighting from the stock tails nor did I say what he did is OK. I agree with you that the more light the better, but are you really not going to see these tails in front of you? Answer that honestly. If you can't see those tails in front of you, YOU shouldn't be behind the wheel.

I also agree that S5 tails look a lot better, im not saying I like the looks either. Your assuming that as well. Im not defending him on whether or not they look good, just the lighting produced you will still see at night while your driving behind him.

Hey man, huge props for being different! I don't think you're just doing it the hard way, haven't seen whole shots of the car but I think it could turn out really nice, you're doing some really nice glass work.

I agree with those people talking about the 80's look. kind of an 80's GT car look to it, I think it rocks :P

as far as legalities go, there are laws, and there are safety laws. As long as you're doing things to keep your modifications safe, I don't see a problem. to each his own.

I think you've put considerable thought into what you're doing, keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback - just finished the 2nd tail.
Tomorrow I will try to take a few more pic's to show a better end result.
I just can't take the car out of the garage yet. So kinda limited in space. I think I will very quickly get tired of these, and at that point I am going to gut the insides, cut out the lenses completely -Leave the circles-, and glass in those red (non-trailer light) Super LEDS mentioned earlier, or something else for the open lens holes. It would be very easy to put just about anything I want in to replace the original lenses. That's where RRTEC's lens Idea from his thread caught my interest.
Wow, really liking that idea - never thought of leaving the holes and removing/replacing the lenses themselves. Will have to think on that one some more.

Throw out your ideas w/ pic;s or design plans!! - This could be good!! - and maybe even original

Thanks,

TFitz.
