My Rotary Project....
Hey guys!
Well, I had a little trouble deciding what to do with my car but have already found a path. Here are the basics:
Mazda 1988 RX-7 FC GXL $400
The car came with racing beat mufflers that were welded onto the stock system, along with racing beat springs, tokicko blue shocks, and a few other things as well. After being confused I grabbed an S4 Turbo II tranny and rear end. I was thinking about going for the Turbo II setup and try to shoot for about 400 horses.
I went to Rotary Shack which was local for me and decided to talk to Robert who is the shop owner and see what he had to say. First question he brought up was "Can you handle it?", me being a tard and wanting 400hp in a car that I wasn't even used to driving at all was something I didn't think about. Rotary Shack is a rotary dedicated shop that deals with many many many different projects for customer's nationwide. They've got pretty much a lot of experience working with these engines and cars with an addition to selling parts too. I saw some of the projects they were working on at the moment and I must say that it is VERY awesome. Check out their website and ask them any questions:
Rotary Shack
It would be worth the contacting... they've got a lot of information and great deals.
So I sat down with Robert and we brought out what exactly I wanted. We wanted to nail down lots of low end torque w/ lots of top end pull.
So now, here's what's going on the project:
6 Port Hybrid Motor
Turbo 2 Rotor Housings
Full true dual exhaust system w/ presilencers
48mm Race Carb Intake
HTI coils running through a modded distributor
An upgraded oil cooling system
An upgraded radiator
Upgraded fuel pressure regulator
Street porting
There's more stuff to be put on as well, but at the moment that's all that's being done.
The car is still in the process of getting done. The whole drive train has been taken out and the engine bay has been cleaned out as best as I could. The project is still in progress and will keep you guys updated when whenever I can.
Here are the pics I got so far:
Hope you all enjoy the pics, I'll keep more posted!

I also wouldn't go with carbs, but whatever turns ya on.
Remember that it won't just be an FPR, you'll pretty much need to re-do the fuel system (low pressure) for it to be reliable. You can get a fair amount of HP out of a 13B with carbs. Personally I find FI to be less finicky, but then that's what I'm used to.
Also, how are you intending to get low-end AND top-end with a carb setup? Is there a VDI setup for carbs (the variable intake from the NA 13Bs)?
Pretty much to get low-end you need to fool the 13B into thinking it's bigger than it is - turbo or some other way of getting more fuel and air in.

Hey all,
Well I haven't been posting up on here for a while. The engine
is being planned to be put in as soon as the full funds are
available (damn tax return ) . I've got pics of the car.
Here's the updates of what was done:
The interior was stripped out, but the dash and such are still
in.
Popped the nasty dent out of the car and picked up an Aluminum
hood
I recently got a Fluidyne radiator and had done just about
cleanups.
The whole entire drivetrain is now a Turbo II swap and I had done
an S5 conversion exterior wise.
I also ordered and installed some new brake rotors and pads from
Trinet Motor Sports
So far so good things are coming along well, I've been really
slow with work getting really busy and all. But I'll keep you all
updated once the Carb Engine has been put in. Also, I went with
the carb setup because it sounded great, has some power to it,
and is a much simpler setup.
I'm hoping by the end of this week to have the engine at least
ready to be put in, then be able to drive it. I've been itching
to get it done every time I work on the car.
