Red face My Rebuild Story

So over this labor day weekend has been kind of stressful for me. I finished the motor and dropped it into the car. went to fire it up and she fired on the first crank, no joke. then about 8 sec later died. but I couldnt get it to fire back up from the starter so I pull started it behind my buddys explorer. so it fired up and ran smooth again. pulled up to the house to let it idle and everything looked good, bout 10 min later there was water hissing out of the heater core inlet on the outside firewall due to a clamp that was not tite, so the pure water (no antifreeze) in my cooling system was boiling. not for very long though. it was more of a sloshing sound of airpockets where water was boiling. also there was a puddle of oil on the ground to make things worse. so I shut it down.

at that point I told my friend $100.00 and the ***** his, I was very upset. the next day we diagnosed it before we got to worked up about it, it was then we discovered that the hose clamp was loose on the outside firewall for the heatercore, the reason it boiled was cause its was pure water and there was a leak so air got in, (and everyone knows how unforgiving FC's are when theres air in there cooling systems). and last the oil leak is coming from the front cover where the oil pump is because I went half assed on the silcone when the short bloacl was being assembled cause we were running out.

So it looks like I will be doing a little resealing on my part that I effed up on. but other than that it seems to be goung great. also I was wondering if anyone has and rebuild start up tips untill its broken in, hence building enough compression to fire up using the starter motor instead of pull starting it. I know the vasaline I used for assembly lube had something to do with the compression that helped it fire right up the first time. any suggestions or comment would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
