Sureshot i run a similar setup on stock Gxl rims (same dimensions)

running sumitomo 225-50-15's with 29-30 psi on all 4 corners.. it reall is a great feel. i like it better than 205-60's on all 4's. I still need to get my rear suspension in line my struts are shot!

So I took Sureshot's advice and let 10 PSI out of my tires, and damn, the ride is much better. Not as darty at high speed turns and feels more accurate when pointing into a corner. I am gonna take it for a real ride after work and see if I can feel a difference.

This is a great thread. I have been wondering about this. I am dreaming of some 225-50-15s on vert wheels.

 

So I went for another ride on the twisties with the PSI at about 32 lbs. Yes, it handled MUCH better and was way more accurate, but I still got a lot of tire squeal and softness when trying to take a really hard corner. I think it is the fact that 225/50/16 FZ4 Toyo's just aren't cut out for full on cornering. I am sure that once I get some RA-1s in the 225, the squealing and softness will go away. I am still gonna go back to the 205/45/16 FZ4s with the reinforced sidewalls for my daily driver wheels. I also like these better because they are 1.6 inches smaller in diameter, so acceleration is way faster and more noticable. The only downside is that they don't fill the rear wheelwell like the 225s, but I don't care. I am more of a function than fashion guy.

I will soon be getting the 15" vert rims with RA-1s. Now the only question is do I go 225s all around or 205s in front and 225s in rear?

I run 35 psi in each tire. At full tempature 37psi. Those ra1 I feel are the best tires out there. But at $145 each , you get what you pay for. Have fun
