Talking My new GXL (lots of pics)

And i do mean new, it's an '87 GXL that was fully loaded (or atleast nearly so) and only has 56,4xx miles on it. I paid $4700 for it from a dealership, but considering this is the 3rd FC i've seen in town (9 85-89 Toyota MR2's in comparison), they're not exactly common or cheap when you do find one. I do intend to keep everything stock and replace/upgrade things only when they break. Need to see what needs to be done in the way of tuneup, though, but i've got today and tomorrow to deal with that.

Now on to the pictures i took...

edit: hope this works...

Odd, was working when it reloaded...wonder if it's just not being friendly with this forum. I'll see about getting another host that's decent and reupload.

18 town 23 highway i think is what my build sheet says... (it actaully shows 2 for each, like 14-18 town and 16-22 highway mpg, depending on how you drive it) i still got it in the car... guess how much mine costeded? $16,xxx new!!!! wtf? its an 86 base model n/a with a sunroof? and my buddy has his original build sheet also... his is an 86 (1985 on door) base model n/a with no sunroof and his was $13,xxx new.... these were expensive as hell back in the day!

anyway that car is clean as heck... i hate the burgundy death interior but all in all its pretty dang clean

Very nice!

As for the price, I think that real clean examples of these cars should be going for this much and more. Not all of those who appreciate these cars want to mod them out, everything that I have done to mine (other then the wheels) would only be noticed by somebody closely inspecting it and knew what to look for.

Mine is currently at 88K km's (just under 55k miles) and is routinely mistaken for a new car.

Remember enjoyment comes out in many way's!

Thanks for the comments. Currently i'm trying to track down where one of the vacuum lines runs (i really don't want to know how bad they are on the TII) which is giving it a ~100rpm (usually less) fluxuation.

The build sheet says 17mpg city and 24mpg highway, with the range being 14-20 city and 20-28 highway. I don't know how much the sunroof option was since it wasn't listed as a charged amount, but the Manufacturer's suggested retail price (before options) was $18,449 with a final price of $20,423 after options ($715 cd player, $730 leather seats, etc).

Anybody got some advice on good parts or fluids to use in the tuneup beyond the NGK plugs/wires?

quick question:

does that AAS actually work? With that low of mileage, can you really feel the shocks at different settings?

My room mate said he could tell the difference, to me it doesn't seem like it's much of one, but it's apparently working.

Wow, that body looks perfect. Someone babied the hell out of that thing.

Nice find. A bit expensive, but it was probably worth it. You could of gone my route and paid $1600 and then needed a rebuild... new tranny... etc...

And it would be just like the '87 Toyota MR2 i also have...and still be sitting there in pieces. I have enough time to maintain a car, but not rebuild it from the bottom up.

blod i congradulate you on your find. Some people think that 4700 is too much but I personally think that you didi good because even though its the god awful burgundy int. its a clean 7. And if your not gonna mod it, than you saved at least 4 or 5 thousand right there.

I dont get it. People saying you spent too much on a car that clean. Yet i always here of many people throwing down big numbers for turbos, exhaust, wheels, rebuilds, etc.

That car may not have the bad *** look of alot of peoples 7's but oits a real clean car thats damn near 20 years old and already a classic.

Good find and hope you take good care of her.

Yes, thanks for bringing up the value of my RX-7 - other than those few dents I added to it. Honestly, I think I probably would pay that much for my car now - but I got lucky with a guy who couldn't legally keep the car - mine also had 3x as many miles on it.

As for the AAS - it makes a major difference what setting you have it on. My friend asked the same question so I tried it on an empty onramp. At 100mph if you shake the wheel a little bit on normal it's just plain scary, if you have it on sport it's stable and not scary.

Great find.

I think if I buy another old sports car I'm gonna throw down serious loot and buy one really clean like that. I mean, mine was in really good shape when I bought it (rebuild, good point, etc.) but I am a bitch about it. I am constantly searching for little trim pieces to replace and ****.
