i think i am gonna get some thick insulation and cram it between the floorboard and the muffler then pin it against it with hanger.

header wrap wont work to stop the banging but i had already thought about putting it around the hangers to reduce the rubbing.

i guess i should update my sig, hows this

i will get pics when I get back to Savannah on monday.

i am having a hell of a time getting this **** to stop rattling. my hvac hanger stuff just isnt cutting it but i cant think of an easy way to weld hangers on their and have them supported.

and i think by tightening the hangers i reduced the banging

ok.....when I was in high school, a piece of the roof over the pool broke off and collapsed....they found asbestos in the ceiling, and had to close the school for three weeks to get it all removed....and as far as I can tell you, no one was in any danger of going up into the ceiling and chewing on a wad of asbestos.....amazing how people who dont know **** always hafta sound off!!
Asbestos gets into your lungs, and among other things can cause the lungs to STOP WORKING--in other words, it KILLS you. It used to be used in fire gear also, but now that we found it KILLS YOU, it isnt used anymore.
do yourself a favor, and ask someone who works with exhaust this question......if you go to your local muffler shop, they can probably weld up something to hang it right and it wont cost you that much

Agreed, asbestos is a VERY VERY dangerous thing. I would go back to a stock exhaust before I used that to do ANYTHING.

This is how I did mine

This is the way I did mine. Where the tip exits out the side (I had a flat tip, looks like a Camaro tip, Flat)

I had the entire exaust pipe from the pre-cat flange bent up alittle. Bout a fraction of an inch. This was enough for it to press against the bottom just below where the door closes.

Never rattled. I dont have pics because The smeel and noise was a little too much for me. But it sounds tight.

Did this exhaust come w/ a rebel flag and a Pantera cassette?

Side-exit exhausts are so boogen; best left to bowtie folk.

I can weld it myself i just have to find a place to put the supports without welding to the frame or floorboards. plus i live with a blacksmith so i have a few more options than a muffler shop.

the biggest problem with hanging it is that its off center from the existing exhaust hangers. so i could hang it off of one of them but i need to find an attachment point for the passenger side hanger. it would help if i had a bigger jack

agreed asbestos is BAD stuff

well the muffler didnt burn out, but after the first 3 days it started rattling really badly, i took it off and the "weld" on the top had split so it was "flapping". i sent it back to summit for a replacement. should get it this week.

the weld could hardly be called that, it just pulled off of the metal. if it comes apart again i will just weld it myself.

pretty poor quality control on the behalf of Edelbrock if you ask me.

When I get the tags on my car some time, I am going to have to see you car I live in Aiken. I have just bought a RB dual header, and I am going to make a side exit exhaust as soon as I sell my ricer cans and get the money to buy a spintech muffler.

Cory, I cant wait to see how the spintech muffler sounds on your car. Ive heard great results from them on V8's, but never even heard someone mention that name and rx7's in the same sentence.

Yeah as soon as I sell my ricer cans that are on my car I can afford the spintech mufflers. I have all the other parts that I need order from mazdatrix already.

I went and looked at the Spintech mufflers. I would like to be optimistic, but I must warn you anyways. Not one baffled muffler has lasted on a rotary that I know. The baffles in a flowmaster last 2-3 weeks before welds start breaking, and the baffles start rattling. A side exhaust will be VERY punishing to any muffler than isnt straight through. The muffler has to be right on the collector to fit, and thats simply too close to the engine for any muffler to be expected to last. BTW, if you do get a spintech, what model were you planning on getting? Even for a side exhaust, you need the inlet and outlet on opposite ends of the muffler, which is opposite of the side exhaust on a mustang, which has the inlet and outlet right beside each other on the same side of the muffler. I must ask you to avoid a baffled muffler, especially if it doesnt have a very good warranty. If it has a good warranty, youre welcome to try it, and send it back when(not if) it falls apart.

Justin now thinks his second edelbrock muffler is blown. I think that one lasted just over a week.

I think a side exhaust is simply not practical on a rotary. The only muffler type that will last is a straight through, packed with SS wool. And those dont exactly muffle very much. I dont believe there is a muffler on the market that will sound good, be relatively quiet(the edelbrock is a very quiet muffler, but justins car is still deafening), and will take the abuse of being that close to the engine.

I want to get two of these so that I can keep it a true dual all the way out. I think it will be really loud, but the neighbors will get over it. And I am hoping that I can stagger the mufflers so that they fit better. Also for Justin have you had any problems with ground clearence.

Ok that didn't take you all the way to the muffler, so first click on products on the left side of the screen, then click on street performance, after that click on Pro-street on the products list, once you get there the muffler I am after is number 6111. I don't know why that link didn't work.
