My horn won't work!!
I just bought an 87 RX-7, and it is SA-WEET!! It's my first car, and now my baby, so I'm gonna be like a good parent, and get help when I need it. I'm okay when it comes to mechanincs and electrical, but please, keep it dumbed down for me.
So, as I had said before, my horns don't work. Now, do the horns work off of something set in the harness, or do they run to a relay as well, because there is a little plastic clippy thingy with two contact points, or something (like I said, I'm not a mechanic) that the horn wires seem to be attached to, but I'm not positive. Any ideas on where to start would be great.
And yes, I know I could tear the whole car apart, and fix this, along with the myriad of other minor problems, but I don't have another car, so I have to put back whatever I take away, so I can drive.... so yeah, please help me.
Thanks

get a multimeter. if you don't have one there like $20 at walmart or borrow, either way if you start working on the car a lot you'll want to get one. check the connector for voltage when the horn button is pushed. If theres voltage, replace the horn. If you don't have voltage then the problem is gonna be more difficult. somewhere in the buttons or in the wiring leading up to the horn.

There's a relay in the CPU that feeds the horn. You press the horn switch on the steering wheel which in turn puts a GROUND on the Green/Orange wire of the CPU. The relay pulls in and sends 12vdc to the Green/Red wire at the CPU plug and on to the horns.
So. You can get a piece of wire bare on each end. Put one end to ground. The other end to the Green/Orange wire on the CPU. The HORN should sound off. If it does not, then take the plug off the CPU and with a piece of wire as above, jumper b/t the Green/Red wire and the GREEN/WHITE wire. The horn should sound off. If it does not, then either the fuse is kaput and there is no power on the Green/White wire or there is an open in the wiring b/t the CPU and the horn.
The CPU is NOT the ECU and is located to the left of your ..left foot, behind/aft of the FUSE BOX.
