My Evo IX Brembo Calipers on FC3S Upgrade
Sweet. Are you using the EVO brake line? Part of the deal with the calipers I'm getting is EVO stainless lines. Hopefully they'll be long enough. Also, did you have to shim the caliper out any to keep it centered over the rotor?

I didn't have to shim anything, but I'll admit to only eyeballing it and not measuring precisely.
Stock line worked!?! Nice, I already have nice stainless DOT lines. Heres a pic of possible routing, I don't know how important it is to capture the line. I was thinking routing it like the pic, and using a stainless line might be rigid enough to stay captured by the opposite slots.

Going back through the thread, Project7 used the EVO rubber lines. Did you have to get an adaptor and were you able to utilise the strut tab to capture the brake line? I'm just trying to figure out if I should get the EVO braided lines or end up making some custom units.

I used Evo SS braided lines in the end and they have enough length on them to accomodate flipping the calipers to the correct side (haven't done it yet), but in order to use them you have to change the flare and nut on the hard line connecting to the Evo SSB line. For me it was no big deal because I installed and rerouted all new hard lines. The difference is the stock FC is a metric double flared hard line and nut. The Evo is a metric bubble flare hard line and nut. I just bought a ISO bubble flare kit and a short piece of metric bubble flared line to use the nuts from. The hard line diameter is the same for either metric or stanard (1/4" or 4mm, correct me please if I am wrong), it's the thread and type of flare that makes the difference. It wasn't hard to do.
the flared fittings a different between the rx7 and evo as what the brake shop told me, hence i just got each fitting copied and made from braided hose.
project7, you mentioned that you used the stock evo bolts to bolt the caliper up, the bolts being m12 by 1.75, some odd reason my thread in the stub axle was m12 by 1.5 , s5t jap import make in difference ?.
for people who cant use a 929 master cylinder like me or a 1'' nissan patrol master, pbr make a 1'' bore master to suit a ford xb falcon, p6258a. its looking like a direct swap, maybe abit of a touch up and custom lines but should work.
hopefully people like clokker start posting helpfull info in this tech thread, just because i say im from australia doesnt mean im born there, facts first, keyboard warrior moments second.

Tech threads are more than the nuts and bolts, assessing the value and performance of an upgrade also has a place here.
It just struck me as odd when you said that a $700 investment was worth it even if performance remained the same, that's all.
For the record, I hope everyone involved here loves the conversion and I find the investigative process interesting (which is why I follow threads like this).
I also hope that after the parts are bolted on, someone takes the time to rigorously test the results so the rest of us can evaluate the swap and see how it fits our own cost/benefit analysis.
I'm getting kind of lost on this brake line discussion. The RX7 rear line is a bolt-on solution, has the correct fittings already, and is the correct length for the Brembo's on the front. Shouldn't that be the end of the discussion?

Correct unless they are too short once you switch the calipers to the correct sides. Then you could use the Evo SSB line and the flaring I described.
so how does that affect the evo rotor in the setup? will need larger rotors to fill out the extra 0.7"? so a rotor of dia. about 13-13.1" would be the best on a FD with the Evo calipers?
wow, you guys actually made it work... thats awesome. I was in the process of doing the same thing for my FD, but I gave up and blew tons of money on a different setup. Anyway, congrats on making it work. Yeah the only thing id do would be to swap the crossover tube (as was previously mentioned) or just have slightly uneven pad wear and replace the pads ever so slightly sooner. with the money you save using this kit VS a BBK you could swap pads every month for years and still come out ahead!!!!
If anyone is interested, I have a good/clean set of front calipers, hardware, hawk HPS pads (pretty used but good for fitting and testing), and the MASSIVE Evo 9 rotors 320mmx32mm which I had machined to fit the mazda hub (bolts right on). If anyone is interested let me know, and I'll make you a deal on everything. Now I regret getting that BBK, I could have saved THOUSANDS (literally)

For front '08 EVO calipers + rotors = $362.16 to $450.16 + shipping!!
-the calipers are "reman" so they might not have the "cool" Brembo logo...but hey, they're fresh & ready to install! I know its an older thread but....gotta love the search function!
