Is my engine toast?

In my 88 RX7 I had to replace the water pump seal, and while tightening down the bottom nut by the main pulley, I heard a crunch, and it felt like it was threading easier. Now when the engine turns over, there is a horrible clunking sound, and the bolt moves around. I am afraid to start the car. Did I break my rotor housing? Thanks for your help.

i took the water pump and housing off to discover that the bottom bolt busted through the front cover for the main pulley set up. It cracked off a good 2-3 inch chunk and the bolt bent on one of the balancers. How hard of a job is it to take the front cover off? Thanks for your help.
