I have a situation with this i just got down the the bare rotor the housing are perfect i looked at them carefully. I found that rotor looks like it has been rebuilt and unless the intakes are supposed to look smooth then I don't think anyone tried porting them but this is one weird engine. Are the 3 irons supposed to look like the turbo irons. I don't think they are because of the 5 and 6th ports. One more thing is the apex seals supposed to come in 3 pieces i know that mazda did you use them at one time but i thought they used them on the turbo.

Sorry I'm kinda tired and in a hurry. I got a 87 n/a about half a year ago and It didn't runn that good. Now I when i teared it down it looked like it was rebuilt. I'm not sure though. I'm just kinda wondering how and why this is happening because of the fact there is no damages in the rotors or housings and the seals look pretty darn good.

 

Did you compression test it before diving into the engine?

Running poorly could have been many things other than compression.....
